Hi ALL,

If you live in LOL or Lutz, try your phone number on the "Can I get FIOS TV" web page. My number is 813-996-XXXX and it finally came up as available. When I spoke to the cust serv rep to order my install, he confirmed that just today they opened up LOL, Lutz and a couple of other areas. My install is a week from today and I'm getting the two tuner HD DVR.

I'm currently with DirecTV and have been very disappointed with their service for quite some time. They are very bandwidth limited and almost all of their HD channels most people are now calling "HD Lite!" Most of what I've read says that the FIOS picture quality is much better. (Yes, I know there is another thread in this forum with bad picture quality, but hopfully that is only a specific problem.)

Congrats on being able to get it! I wish they'd come to Plant City so I can drop Brighthouse. I'm tired of the excuses they're using for ESPN2HD :(

Install went good. It should've been an easy job a couple of hours. But ended up being like 5. I was suppose to have had 2 HD-dvr and 2 SD, and new router(great by the way). Nice interface.
Everything was fine except that one of the HD-dvrs was nothing but trouble it wasn't picking up the IP from router so couldn't get guide. Went thru 3 boxes all did the same. So then thought we bad cable somewhere. But it turned out just to be 3 bad boxes.(what are the odds?)

One of my hd dvr's ended up now being just hd, because he ran out of them and they have to bring another this week i hope.

Quality is great, loving it !! Much better than BHN. I have so far, knock on wood, no issues with freezing, lockups. Great picture!!

It's closer to Tivo than what BHN had, actually it's like Ultimate TV Microsoft had years ago with Directv. It's not better than TIVO, but close and far beyond BHN dvr. More search features.
Like the widget feature. No complaints. Just hope my other box comes this week.

Hi bucdup,

Good to hear that your install went basically good. I'm also getting the HD DVR, but only one so hopefully the box they send works!

Also good to hear that the picture quality is good, as that is my primary concern. I also have the DirecTV HD Tivo, and I'm so disgusted with its slowness and the poor picture from DTV that I greatly look forward to moving over to FIOS. I just hope it lives up to my expectations!!!

Wish me luck,
Gerry

bucdup,
Did they mention anything about multi-room DVR? I called VZ a couple of days ago and they told me that it should be out any day now... for 19.95/month.

Anyone else have any details?

Thanks,
Chupacabra

No mention so far. On a side note - On the enhanced tv menu there is a media manager selection that says coming soon to your area. Media Manager is an exciting new service that will let you play Music and View Photos from your home network connected pc on your tv.

Gerryex,

Good luck with your install, from my days with Directv, Picture is much better, clearer and I think much faster than tivo as far as going thru menus and channels. Still waiting on my other dvr box..arrrrgh
I really think it's going to get even better, just seems like it's easy for them to expand services and more widgets.

Hi ALL,

Just wanted to let everyone know that my install went pretty well. All the hardware worked as advertised, but an administrative mix up took about a half an hour to clear up and my HD DVR had to be reset a couple of times. Other than that all seems to be working.

Being used to the DirecTV HD Tivo, I need to adjust my thinking to get more familiar to the FIOS HD DVR's interface, but with the little time I've had it seems to do just about everything the Tivo can do.

Hey everyone... first post :-)

LOL, Wilderness Lake...

I got FiOS TV installed last Sat, including multiroom DVR option, with two SD boxes.

The problems I had:
1. After the install, I recorded something on the dvr and it was not available on the other two boxes. I called Verizon, and they had to perform a full "hard" reset of all the boxes. They said the techs are the ones to do it at the end of the install.
2. Media manager is there and it works to some extend. It does not work on the SD boxes (why?). I installed the software on my PC and all my photos are available in the Verizon software there, but only demo photos are available on the HD box. Not sure why this is, and I think I will tweak it some more.

Good:
1. Picture quality seems to be much better than Brighthouse.
2. Boxes are much more responsive than Brighthouse. However, I still miss the good old analog days when I could flip the channels with the speed of light. On the positive note, Verizon boxes seem to have a "delay" feature, which allows you to surf the channels quickly, and the only thing that changes is the guide bar, not the current channel. I like that!

I'll write some more when I have more time to play.
