View Full Version : Question about the Bucs on Sunday Night ESPN

The Bucs play in Jacksonville on Sunday night ESPN on November 30th. NFL rules mandate that when two teams play on cable, the game must also be broadcast on one of the local channels in each of the cities whose teams are represented in the game. In most cases due to the ABC/ESPN affilliation through Disney, the ESPN broadcast is piped through WFTS, our local ABC affilliate.

My question is this: Since we DO get the digital signal for WFTS, will we see that game in HD here in Tampa over the WFTS digital feed?

Now, clearly we all hope BH picks up ESPN-HD by then, for the love of God, but I am just trying to analyze the possibilities. Any thoughts?

They are very proactive over there with HD, so I would have to assume they will carry it. I can find out though. I still have some contacts over there.

No. WFTS will only show the game in SD. This is because of the contract in place between ESPN and WFTS and because WFTS does not have the equipment to re-broadcast ESPN-HD.

I think bschneider is correct on this one. I would be very surprised if it were in HD OTA.

I think BHN will add ESPNHD by then. If not you bring the beer and I will provide the entertainment. ;)

You won't ever see this on ABC HD since ESPN has the exclusive rights for this game and since they are paying for it to be in HDTV they aren't going to just give it too ABC. They want you to get ESPN HD and if you can't get it they want you to go where you can.

To put it simple not a chance in hell of seeing this in HD on ABC.
