Thanks for the info on connecting my computer to HDTV. As you can see I am cheap and trying to find the least expensive way to do get hdtv given the stuff I already have. According to the HDTV video card specs, I would need to upgrade my video card as well as buy an HDTV card to get HDTV.

Again, I have a very good extra Sony 19" computer monitor that is not being used.

Can I buy an HDTV tuner and connect it directly to that monitor? Do I need some type of an adapter?

Thanks again,

Martin

off the top of my head, i'd say no.
unless, the "high end" monitor allows for component input.
a pc [usually] outputs RGB, not component. The STB (set top box) would output component. TVs going back 10 years have had Component inputs - they were the ones you usual found in an AV lab at school or in the corporate environment. So maybe your CRT has this.
If so, there's a $200 ATSC tuner at Walmart, plus there's this:

But for now, I'd wait to find some open box deals next week at local Best Buy/etc.
