Hello all,

I recently purchased a Samsung SIR TS-360 HD reciever. Have had good luck with it so far, except for some audio drop outs on HD channels(HD package & OTA). Anyone else experience this? Anyway the main reason for this post is, i have read in other forums that using the component inputs on the samsung(480i/p) that i can hook my DVD player to these and using the component out on the unit that i can select 720p/1080i and upconvert my DVD movies to the higher resolution. Has anyone done this or know if this is true. If it can be done would many of yourecommend doing it this way or use a direct connection from my DVD player to TV.

Thanks

Yea I have noticed the same problem with my 360 and most of the time I see it on FOX, especially when I am surfing between 2 channels. I think there has been a couple other threads regarding audio dropouts regarding FOX but I think those were with the Sammy 160 units if memory serves correctly.

I think there is definently and issue with either the FOX ATSC stream or the Samsung Firmware. Since it only seems to be the Sammys having this problem I would tend to lean towards the 360 having some issue. It is very annoying but with out the proper stream anylyzer I can not narrow it down.

By the way I am trying to get some of our anylyzing equipment out of our operations lab so I can really see what is happening.

sure, i think you should try to connect the DVD through the 360 unless your TV has [better?] upconverting built into its 480p port.
its a big difference, IMHO.
I never watch a DVD at 480p because I use my HTPC to play it at a higher res and its much better.

Hi all, I've been following this thread and I have a question. I was also thinking about hooking my dvd to the input to the Samsung 360 to upconvert the dvd signal but my question is, should I use the componet video out or the DVI output. I'm not sure if the Samsung 360 has a better convert in it or my Sony KP-57WV700 tv.

If I understand the dvi output correctly when I use the dvi output on the Samsung 360 it doen't convert the signal my tv does. Please correct me if I'm wrong on this!!!

Thanks in advance for any help,
Chris
