Hello all,

I have been reading about the Verizon FIOS service for awhile now and there seems to be a great concensus overall that it gives the best pic quality on both SD and HD as well as providing the most HD content. I will be finally getting the HD DVR, this will be my fisrt. Anything for me will be most welcomed. I was wondering if the HD boxes comes with DVI or HDMI, and most importantly, DO THEY WORK?!?!?!? I am guessing it had both optical and digital coax on there as well?!?!?!? I am prob going to be buying the Samsung 56" 1080P set for my B-Day next month and would like to get the best bang for my buck, both for the TV and my HD provider. Oh i will laos be getting their broadband service 15/2 package. Let me know what you all think about the FIOS service/equipment and the TV if you don't mind.

Thanks

The set top boxes come with HDMI connections. They work fine with my TV. I have a Samsung 1080P and love the picture. It was an early one and does not support 1080P input however so....There are optical and digital sound outputs to your HT box so that is fine. Can't tell you about the broadband yet, mine is not being installed until next week. I started with checking out the TV first.

Which Samsung did you buy? I am looking at buying the HLS5687 1080P. From everything I have read this will accept a 1080P signal from a BlueRay/HD DVD Player. Or am i mistaken?

HL-R6178. You have a latter model, I think. I love the picture quality in any case.

I've had a HLS5688 for 3 weeks and love it! Yes, it is one of the few (at this time) that can take a 1080p input.

Amazing picture, much brighter than last year's HL-R models. With minor adjustments to brightness and contrast there is no black crush and still excellent bright detail. Also very fast video processing that shows no noticeable lag without turning on "game" mode.

Waflowers,

I am correct in saying that both the hls5687 and hls5688 can accept a true 1080P signal and the only difference is that yours had PIP, Cable Card and few others things. I also believe that both do 10 bit processing. I work for best buy and i can get the HLS5687 for about $2050. We won't be carrying the hls5688 models. I really don't care about the PIP/Cable Card as i would never use them. Any other info that would be useful would be greatly appreciated. I am simply gonna be using the DVD for Verizon FIOS TV w/HD DVR and my current DVD player and will upgrade to HD DVD when the 1080P version comes out.
