well, my 2nd box was defintely bad... when i would record one HD channel, i could not even get a 2nd HD channel to appear on the other builtin tuner. all other channels would appear just blank or gray.
stop the recording and the other channels would now display correctly.
so, a cablelink technician just swapped out the box and the installer improved my db on the coax coming to the box. i think i'm now at 13db. whatever it was, its fixed (for now with limited testing) and i appear to have a properly working DVR.
