View Full Version : CBS Reception- Harbour Island

I live on Harbour Island. My community discourages rooftop antennas.

Because of the location of CBS relative to the others south of me, multipath from downtown and the island, reception of CBS is problematic.

The CBS engineer refused to waive my site for DTV CBS from New York!

Until recently (past 6 months or so), I have been able to receive CBS along with the Riverview channels fine using a Channelmaster 3221 Bowtie in my attic. This seems to conincide with increased construction in my area.

My reception of CBS has just about disappeared.

I tried using a second Channelmaster, 4221, aimed at CBS in Palm Harbour using a combiner (for channel 24) without success.

Does anyone have suggestions to get CBS (antennas? Installers?) at my ponderosa?

do you have any idea what signal strength was from CBS... or just "no signal".
see this chart
http://www.solidsignal.com/channelmaster_antenna_chart.asp

maybe a 4228 giving you 2 more db would make the difference... also, since you lose db with the jointenna, did you try "just 24" without the jointenna? actually, i guess you did because thats what the 1st antenna was. have you tried another balun? maybe that one is flaky and is losing too much signal. how many other "joiners" is the cable signal passing through before it gets to the STB?

i think you typo'd the model # cause i can't find any ref. to a 3220, so i think thats 3021, which is the same as 4221.

since it appears you don't use any recording HD device (no mention of htpc or BHN), then perhaps you could save the Jointenna signal loss (if thats ultimately killing you) and just use a manual a/b rf switch.

Jaymer- thanks for reply. Somehow, I did not get Email notice of this.

My Sony HD-300 signal meter shows a signal in the bad area! Somehow, the problem seems tocoincide with the new contruction and huge cranes in and near Harbour Island. The reception improved for a few weeks after the hugh crane for the new Post apartments was removed, but, now has deteriorated with the construction and cranes across from the convention center??

I am beginning to think along the lines of what you are suggesting.

I do think I typo'd the current CM in my attic- it is equivalent to the 4221. I think another one or a little bigger one hooke up to an a/bswitch (as suggested on the local CBS website) would work.

I have cat-5 wiring in my house and a net-bus. Also, put in tubes in my attic to drop lines to my media room and other main rooms.

Even though I am a "ham", I can no longer do my own antenna work (recent heart surgery). I need to find someone to help me solve my prolem who will give it a little thought and climb around in my attic

Again, thanks for your interest.

Bob.
