According to another forum on the internet, Fox is going to begin broadcasting in HD tomorrow morning. My question is can I get the national Fox feed from DirecTV even if I can receive it as an OTA channel? I'm a bit confused as to my ability to get it. Some people have said that DTV has to give it to you for free, while others say since I get the OTA signal, I can't get it. Any comments? Thanks.

I'm sure you know this by now, but others might not. The answer is a surprising and resounding yes. Channel 88 on D*. Looks just as good as OTA Fox except it is NY's local fox affiliate. I thought this would be a great forum to measure the difference between D* alleged compression and OTA non-compressed, but I'm not seeing any discernable difference. Could it be that it's 720p? Doesn't 720p use less broadband than 1080i?

Fired up the TV when I got home to notice they've now added a FOX-HD West feed as well (channel 89).

I noticed in my profile section on DirecTV's website that is say's I will be getting the Fox HD feed. I too was watching it last night and could not tell the difference between the DirecTV feed and the OTA antenna.

I have nothing except a call customer service notice. I called DTV and they say nobody is getting FOX off DTV. They are still in negotiations with Fox to add it to Direct Tv. Doesn't seem right! FOX shows on my menu channels 88 & 89 but NO signal. Is everyone getting it except me?

Don't you mean D* and not BHN since BHN has nothing to do with it?

Everyone in the Tampa Bay viewing area should be receiving channel 88 on D* during the game, but you'll need to subscribe to either the HD package or have Local channels. PLUS a little package on your account called FOX_HD*. The CSR at D* should be able to confirm that your account has this and if not add it due to Tampa's eligibilty.

Remember this is not the Fox-HD E/W feeds but a special event channel.

.

No, I meant what I said, "Everyone on BHN is getting FOX HD." It's one of those rare times when BHN is actually doing something right. So I wanted to let him know.

I'll call again. The DTV CSR had no idea what I was talking about and maintained nobody was getting FOX HD off DTV! Clueless....

What's the latest about all this? Im not getting Fox 5 New York on my DirecTV. I'm assuming when the deal is done channel 88 will appear or something? If anyone has the latest news please post!

What's going on here is that Channels 88 and 89 are FOXHD "special events" channels. They only go on air when there is playoff baseball or any other event that is a nationally televised in HD. Since my Sox swept St. Louis, these channels have been deleted from my program guide. I'm assuming they will reappear for the NFL playoffs and Superbowl. Channel 88 is the FOXHD east channel and 89 is west.
