Hi gang,

We're getting ready to do a major remodel on the back of our house. This is where all of the utilities connect up to the house from the overhead lines. I have called all of the utilities to get the wires/cable disconnected (Progress Energy, Verizon) and all are doing this free of charge, except guess who? BHN. They want $49.50 an hour to remove the line and then again charge to connect back up.

So my question is....can I just cut the wire myself and let it hang over the property while we are doing the construction? And then to hook back up, I guess I'll need a adapter to join the wires back where I cut it. Is this going to do anything to my signal, as far as loss?

Could you cancel BHN service? That would have them cut the line and then when you are ready call them to start service again. They would then come out to reconnect the line. Just a thought.

But to answer your question, Yes. You could do what you proposed with a little loss of db.

There's no service to the main house now, so that's not a problem. But they still want the $49.50 an hour to come and hook it back up, too. There's really no way to win without doing it myself.

Did you check to see if there is a connector at the box where the cable is attached to the house? You should be able to unscrew the cable without having to cut it.

No, I have not checked that. Thanks. I'll open the box today and see what's in there. Here's hoping its that simple.

On my pole, there is a barrel connector at the pole connection. the cable comes to trhe house and is locked inside a BHN box.
