View Full Version : Pace 550 Box-Program Guide Not Working

I had the Pace 550 box installed last week. As usual, the BHN installers were totally incompetent. They neglected to make proper settings for output of the box to my widescreen tv which should have been 16x9 and 1080i. I could see they didn't know what they were doing and knew I would have to straighten everything out after they left. They gave me no instructions as to control of the box, and didn't have a Pace 550 users manual to leave for me, so I found one on the internet. I got the settings corrected, and by trial and error, got the system working.
After two days, the program guide disappeared. When I push guide on the remote, nothing happens. Is anyone else having this problem? I saw several posts in this forum about resetting the box and getting updates by unplugging the box and plugging it back in (something the installers or the Pace manual didn't mention). Anyway, I tried unplugging the box and replugging. I still can't get the program guide. Does anyone have a suggestion as to what the problem might be?
Also, is there anyway to get grey sidebars? My tv has a control to do this, but when the Pace box is on, the tv sidebar control won't work.

My program guide stopped working a few days ago as well. Here is what I have determined so far:
1. No guide/menu on most channels below 100. For some reason, Channels 17, and 001 work OK
2. It is happening via component video. The menu works for on all channels via DVI
3. It's not my box. I swapped it out today, and the new one has the same issue.
4. Pulling the power cord/reseting does not fix the problem.
5. It happens with the Resolution set to PASS, 480i, 480p. For Some reason, the menu works OK on 1080i.
Pace/BHN must have pushed out an update recently that screwed things up.

Plug in standard analog cables along with your current cable set up... I think that will do the trick, I remember hearing something about Pace boxes not throwing the guide signal (analog) out properly over the digital ports.

I'm not sure I understand your recommendation.
My guide works fine over the DVI connection. The problem I have is with Component video.
Are you saying I should plug in the "Composite/Yellow" video cable, and that will fix my "Component" issue?

yes... the plain old yellow analog video cable... it's a shot in the dark but for some reason it came to mind when I read this forum thread... not sure where/how it got lodged in the back of my mind.

I figured out what the issue was.
There is some kind of conflict between the DVI connection and the Component.
As soon as I unplugged the DVI connection, the menu started working on all analog channels via component.
Very strange.

Interesting... perhaps a PACE hardware limitation that only allows one in use at a time?

I subscribe only to channels below 100. I use component connection, set to 1080i. I have reset the Pace box several times, but still cannot get the program guide/menu.
I thought BHN was now monitoring this forum. Wonder why they don't respond to this?

you mean your phone is broke?
you mean you think that a representative of BHN should contact you officially on this forum, even after your initial message said their installers suck?
you can always pick up the phone and call in an issue.
yes, several BHN/Installer people do read message on this website... i can't tell you that they do it everyday, or see every message tho.
we've even had gmclaughlin from orlando BHN reply here in the past to try and push issues through for people via his office and his contacts. thats not too shabby IMHO. I wonder if you were on D* if the technical people/execs would be monitoring and offer to help?

gmclaughlin still does read this from time to time, but you guys ususally seem to get things worked out on your own.
Paulfolse: PM me with your name, address and phone number on the account and I'll have someone call you to resolve this. I'd give you some ideas myself, but without knowing your TV make and/or cabling I'd just be guessing.
