Has anyone taken the $999.99 plunge & purchased the HR10-250? I'm looking for feedback & reviews before I jump into yet another $1K D* Sat receiver (Mirs SR-HD5 in 2001).

If you plan on using the HDMI or DVI connection, you may want to hold off until DirectTv fixes the problem. Review the following link for more details.

I have one, and I love it.
I have not had one problem with it.

I do not use the HDMI output.

I have hacked it extensively, and can even exract HD video via ethernet.

It is basicly identical to the regular D* Tivo but records HD.

I was one of the testers for the BHN DVR and I couldn't stand it. So many annoyances that have not been addressed for the last 6 months, and probably be another 6 months before SA even thinks about fixing it.

I loved having the ability to record HD, but was so frustrated by the BHN DVR, that I was motivated to spend the 1k. I am very pleased with my purchase.

The worst part is that the guide is very slow. The guide on my D* non-HD Tivo is also slow but not quite as slow as the HDTivo. This really doesn't bother me because I have so much pre-recorded HD content now that I don't ever use the guide. I just watch something that is pre-recorded.

The feature that I like the most about the HDTivo over the BHN DVR is the 30 second skip button.
The feature that the BHN DVR has that I miss is Picture in picture, which I only miss during football season.

There really is nothing on the market like the HDTivo.

You are welcomed to come to my house and demo it. Just PM me, I live in Ybor.

I don't anticipate using the HDMI yet as my TV is a 2001 Mits.
Does anyone know how long the back-order timeframe currently is, or where the best place to buy this unit is?

I bought mine at CircuitCity.com
they have them in stock on the website only.
Here is the link.

http://www.circuitcity.com/ssm/Hughes-Network-Systems-DIRECTV--HD-Receiver-Digital-Video-Recorder--HR10-250-/sem/rpsm/oid/93509/rpem/ccd/productDetail.do

It is hard to find on their website since it is with the Sat Receivers instaed of with the other DVR's.

I took the plunge. I ordered it from an old favorite store of mine;
www.abtelectronics.com
Their site says they have it in stock, so we'll know in a few days.
Thanks for the insight.

D* should help you offset the cost. I called them just after I ordered my HDTivo and they gave me a $150 credit. When I received the unit, I called again to activate the receiver and asked them again what they could do for me since I'd heard others where getting $250 credit. They gave me another $100 credit and free HD package and Showtime HD for 6 months. Not bad. It seems to depend on who you happen to speak with on what they will do.

Here's what's killing me; This year is the first in 4 years that I have not purchased the NFLSundayTicket. I've had my HDTV since 2001, but I've tried to cut a few corners on $ recently. After I made the decision not to renew, D* goes balls to the wall on HD NFL. Everyone else seems to be getting the NFL ST for FREE this year!!
I'm thinking D* should throw me a bone here, given that I've spent two grand on HD Sat receivers in 3 years.

Well - I received the product. I HIGHLY recommend AbtElectronics.com to anyone in the market of AV products (free shipping & no sales tax).

No issues so far with the HDTivo, except that it found & recorded an episode of Cagney & Lacey; maybe it has a sense of humor.

D* were reasonable in crediting me $150 & giving me two premium packages for 6 months, so I'm not complaining.
