View Full Version : Channels 613 & 628 resolution?
Hey gang, I set my Pace550 box to "pass" and the channels (except HD) came through to my TV as 480p. But my TV (Philips 55PW9363) will not lock onto a signal on channels 613 & 628 when the box is in pass mode. It will show them when I set the box to 1080i. So I was curious as to what the actual resolution is for these 2 channels. Thanks!
Well ABC is 720p, which if not accepted by your TV would lead to a blank screen. Now Fox should be 480p as Fox does not broadcast in HD just yet. Unless Tampa Fox is in one of those test markets where the 720p testing is being done (Fox announced plans to go 720p by the end of the year). But this would be the first I heard of that. The only other thing I can think of is that component input only does 1080i or 480i which is the case on some TVs so when you input the 720p ABC or 480p fox you get nothing.

I have a philips 55pp9352, the HD inputs should lock a 780p signal just fine. I still have a SA STB right now and all the 6?? stuff comes throught in 1080i, the set up converts 720p to 1080i. Your set should do the same. Any set that can not do 720p native should upconvert it 1080i. There are not may sets that do 720p native.

Thanks for the information 8) Are you using the component input on the back of the TV? I'm using DVI from the Pace to the TV, and the TV's component input is for DVD.
Well I just called Philips, and was told that the DVI input will not lock on to a 720p signal, only 480 or 1080.
Aye didn't realize you were using the DVI. And wasn't sure if philips accepted and converted 720p or not. Now we know.

I am not sure that is true. I have a service manual CD for these sets. I will check it out. Seeing as I have the OLD SA STB that does nothing but pass through(I think), If I switch my set to HD4 which is CVI(HD) that I use for HDTV, I get all SDTV and DTV in 480p all the HD 600's come in 1080i. So my set is up converting FOX or the SA is doing it. Now I think I have confused myself more...

Hmmm...interesting. Let me/us know what you find out. I checked to see if I could change the color spacing on AV5 (DVI), but only AV4 (component) has options to change color spacing.

What do you mean by color space?

RGB or YPbPr

Our sets are differnet you have DVI-D/HDCP and I do not.
HD5 on yours is DVI, mine is HD15(VGA) (RGB or YPbPr)
HD4 on yours is componet (RGB or YPbPr), mine is just componet YPbPr
You could still hook up a computer to HD4 on your set if you get the correct cable HD15 to componet. You dont need the expensive cable as your set does the conversion for you.
I dont know that much about DVI-D execpt it is digital only so I have no idea if the concept of color space is even applicable.
The question is why would you want to change your DVI connection?

As an experiment to see if it would lock on to a 720p signal, but it's no big deal. I'll just leave the Pace550 set for 1080i 8)

Do you have a componet cable ? Test in on your HD4 connection. If it converts on you HD4 connection but not on HD5(DVI) that raises some questions about the DVI on your set.
