Hey all. This is my second purchase from UEC Web and I could not be more pleased! I just purchased a Hitachi 50V500A 50" LCD HDTV. This is selling for $2999 at CC. I paid around $1650 plus shipping from GA. In case you don't know, UEC is the official refurb center for Hitachi. Check out there website it gets updated constantly during the week as to availability. They even have plasmas from time to time! My tv has a small scratch and a real small knick on it it, but I would rather have that and save $1400!

BEWARE Vail55 and any other 60/50" Hitachi V500 owners.
I too have a 50V500 bought in Dec at CC....TV worked great...unless you count the loss of 2 lamps in the first month....NOW in July started seeing a red glow appear on the screen during darker scenes. Call Hitachi Service as it is still under warranty...plus I bought the extended.
Had Hitachi service center rep "Electronic Service Specialists Inc" come out to look at the problem...first they went into a a hidden service menu and made various adjustments...using some sort of Hex Based numbers to try and adjust out the problem..no go...then they said next step is to replace a board....come back and replaced the board and made the whole picture worse...now they have to take it to the shop.
In the shop 10 days they worked with Hitachi Tech in CA on the problem...and there answer was dark scenes will have a red Glow...funny it didnt for the first 6 months....brought it back still has the annoying red glow and now some of the Video Settings in the Menu do not work.
Hitachi Service & Customer Relations have been VERY VERY POOR....now they want to come and take the set out again.
Funny thing is that on AVS Forum there is a post about the Red Glow issue with a quote directly from Hitachi LCD service manual that this is a known problem...and that the problem is due to a faulty Light Engine and it needs to be replaced.....But the part is $1800 so no wonder they do not want to do that.
Asked about a replacement set and they say we do not do that...so who knows what is going to happen
BOTTOM LINE>>>>BEWARE and I hope you do not have to go through this BS

When you buy the extended warranty from CC, they make it sound so easy. If they can't fix it, they claim they will replace it with another one, or if discontinued, apply credit towards another model. I guess hell would freeze over before they do that for you. Time to call the management? Maybe they will get you a loaner if the repair time is excessive and unreasonable.

I'm going through somwhat the same thing, but with a 57S500 rear projection. Bought the unit from REX TV, and it was bad from the moment they set it up. A high voltage 'known' issue on AVSforum, that Hitachi says doesn't exist. No problem like that in their database. I've had 2 service shops out here, one just wanted to pick the TV up a week after I got it home, and take it to the shop for as long as it took to fix it. I told them to come pick it up and bring out a new one. Called REX back, they just brushed me off, and told me to call Hitachi. Had another service shop look at it, they at least spent 3 hours tearing the set apart, testing all the componenets, putting it all back together, and then telling me they needed to come back to replae the main board. Came back out a week later, replaced the board, same problem still there. Meanwhile, Hitachi keeps calling me, asking if it's fixed yet. I told them it's a lemon and I think they should replace the set. They just reiterate that I have repair warranty service. Now, this latest service shop says they only way they can figure out what's wrong is to take it into the shop. The only thing they haven't replaced is the crt's, and the cabinet.
I've had it. I'm checking the lemon laws, if there are any in this state, and then writing letters to the corporate offices of REX TV, Hitachi, probably copying the Better Business Bureau, and anyone else I can think of.

I worked for CC for almost 4 years, and I can't tell you how many times I have seen people get full store credits. It has been 5 years since I worked for CC and still to this day I buy the extended warranties from CC. I use them too, if it breaks I take it back and they either fix it or give me a store credit. Sometimes the warranties cost too much like $59 for a $99 radio but other times it is a good deal $399 ipod $59 warranty for 2 years. I am planning on buying an Ipod this week, and am buying from CC just becuase they offer the warranty.

Oh, yea I purchased the 2 year warranty from UEC. It covers anything, even surge protection. It only comes with a 30 day warranty.
