I've gone ahead and started a new thread to discuss our next meet & greet.

I'm unavailable Monday - Thursday this week and next but am available after that. I would like to make it if you can hold off that long. If not, i'll make the next one.

Boomer, dang, all those titles and nothing that really turns me on as a "i gotta have it" - now I gotta go make a list of my titles
i recognize all the windham hill stuff - was into that in the mid 80s, but dumped it all - too "new age" for me
flim and the BBs stands out as some cool music, if I remember correctly.
a couple of Sting albums I've never heard would be worth a listen.
and everybody's gotta have the Tone Loc album in their crib!

How much are those martinis over there in Westchase?
I was surprised last year when i found that Carrabbas has 2 for 1 martinis before 7 - that red one is delish
I'd say that good drinks and a cigar qualifies a place - forget the HD - whats going to be on from 6-8 anyway?

Bryan's lining up some field trips to the local stations - so I'd imagine there's gonna be a group that can go out after that for a round. Nothing planned either way yet, but we will announce something shortly.

I've been a hard core audiophile for over 20 years and have been collecting CD's since 1985. I loaded all of them into my hard drive, digitally connected my PC to my system and now have a vitual juckbox.

Martini's over at the oak room are $10.00 each. Pretty standard price everywhere, but since I can only handle 3 in 2 hours, it's not that bad.

Well, my trip to Miami for next week was postponed, anyone up for a few martini's and a cigar or two next week?

Boomer, are you using an Audiotron, or how do you make the connection between your PC and audio receiver? I've been on the buying edge of an Audiotron for a while.

No, I ran a cable from the digital out on my sound card to the digital input on my receiver. Not sure what an Audiotron is, I'll have to check that out.

WHOA!! $300 - $400. Forget that, get an Audigy card (not the external thingy, just the card) and a digital cable and your in business.

BTW, the rest of my system is a Yamaha 6.1 receiver connected to a Hafler 500 watt amp for the mains (Martin Logan, Aerius i) and sub (12" JM Labs).

I like the idea of the audiotron cause I can select the music from my receiver location, and I don't have to go to the den and use the PC. Also, I can connect the PC to the audiotron with a WiFi connection, so I don't have to run wire.

Audiotron... Smaudiotron !

but... the cigars... ahh, the cigars... That kinda takes precedence, so if the Westchase club allows them, then I'm in. I'm thinking Tuesday would be my best chance.

i'm doing some computer training over by the airport next tue-friday - i just hate the sound of $10 martinis when they are $4 at carrabbas (2 for 1 during HH) - call me a tight wad, but I'll survive.

Boomer - I need to bum one off of ya (sounds like you prolly have a humidor) and I'll trade you a Fuente "Canones" - my humi is on the fritz and my stash needs some TLC, so this guy won't take too long to get back in shape in your humi.

So how does Tuesday sound for everyone?

Oak Room in westchase.. It's just off Linebaugh in the new Hyde Park type are. You drive in and turn into the left parking area.

I can't make it Tuesday. Blue smoke and long ashes to ya, Lieutenants!

What time are we talking about?

How about Wdenesday?

tuesday is the only day i think i can swing it.
i'm supposed to be training each day from 8am - noon, then i'm done on that side of town.
but for the 1st day, i think i can justify starting after lunch and doing an afternoon session - thats why i'd be over there still after work.
then i'm supposed to be getting up at 6am to start it all over the next day.

in reality, the following week would be MUCH better for me. so you guys don't worry about me and do whatever you guys can work out for the westchase club.

I think we should have at least a week's advance notice for a meeting. I missed the last one, since I didn't log in for a few days, and I'm sure there are others as well. Advance planning also gives us time to work around conflicts such as Jaymer's.

certainly for "formal" mettings, that would be true Floyd, but we can't control simple martini/cigar happy hours!
I'm sure with as spread out as everyone is, we gonna have to have something "special" to make everyone want to put in the effort to physically meetup.

there's the group in clearwater, and carrollwood, brandon, etc.

thats why I think we push for some really big Fall meetup where everyone can put in the extra effort, and then the satellite groups and BBS can keep each other in touch until the next event (or station tour, etc).

I see something on the front page about HH on the 19th - is that still alive?

jaymer

hi max
that was actually supposed to be Thursday the 18th, not 19th.
no one has mentioned it for 2 weeks since i put it up.
i think making official at this late date would bring out the "you didn't give enough notice" group.

i cannot make Fridays for another 9 weeks - playing soccer at 7pm.
so we can make it a Thursday as I was trying (because most people voted "any day" after work) to do or a Friday.

In reality, even though we have over 100 members of the site, only 29 votes, 7 can't make a Tampa meeting, so of the 20 left, i bet we get 10 regardless of when/where we make it... unless it was a big free food/drink sponsored event at a big place.

now, if we want to have an unofficial meeting this Thursday like we planned, then I'm in - just can't on Fridays.

Personally, i'd like to have a big Fall kickoff event - and shoot for 1 or 2 large events each year... with smaller informal meets as we see fit. Maybe if we had a small event on Thursday of this week, we could get our heads together for a big event.

If not this Thursday as planned, then I cannot next week to to travel, but 2 weeks would be fine.

PS _ MAX - I sent you an email at work

I'm pretty flexible (and hence a non-voter). This Thursday would be fine if there is any interest.

It would be interesting to meet up with everyone and shoot the breeze.

These kind of get togethers are almost impossible to plan successfully - so it normally works best if a few people just pick a date and show up.

I live in Westchase and work downtown so almost anywhere works for me.

By the way, thanks for going to all the effort to set up this site.

well, since we at least said Dale Mabry area on the Poll, lets keep it to something in the 275/DM area.

how about Carrabbas just south of 275 - they have a great Happy Hour until 7.
2 for 1 everything, except frozen drinks and premium wine.
there's a patio, so we can do some cigars there, PLUS 2 for 1 Martinis (Boomer just woke up) :D

i'll wait for a few replies tonight and post this on the home page overnight.

I will be there but will be leaving at 7:00pm when HH ends.. I have another meeting at 7:30. I should have some news about a couple of station tours.

It was nice meeting all of you. Each of these get-togethers I have been to has drawn a different crowd. For the next one I hope we can get more people from the previous events to come back... or are they just too busy watching tv?

David.

Glad you took the time to sign up and log in David  . It was good meeting everyone. I heard Jaymer was going to post a synopsis of the evening, so I won't bother, but we (Jaymer, David, Floyd max_gator and myself) drank some martini's, smoked some cigars and engaged in some rather geeky discussions.

Thanks guyz.

I had a nice time meeting you all, and am looking forward to the fall meet, especially that bbq pork that jamer was talking about.

I enjoyed those martini's so much, that Pat and I went back to the carrolwood Carrabbas tonight for a recap. Since it was happy hour, our waiter brought me two 'full' dirty martini's, sequentially, shaken and poured at the table, without any problem or prodding. I still can't figure out what happened with that waitress we had.
