I've had this receiver for a little over a week now. It's attached via the DVI cable to a Hitachi 57S500 HDTV monitor.

At first I left the TS360 resolution set at 1080i, which upconverts everything.
Then I tried Native 3 mode, which switches with the actual input it's receiving. But, if I'm channel surfing, which is almost all the time, it drives me crazy to watcht he screen change from 4:3, to 16:9, to 16:9 letterbox, to 16:9 with side bars, and back again, ad nauseum.

What does everyone else use? 1080i? Native 1, 2 or 3? Others?

Thanks

I've got the Samsung T-160 with a Hitachi 57. A very similar setup to yours. I leave it on native, but I must say that I haven't played with it a lot. One thing I like is that on the T-160 remote there is a format button that allows you to switch the screen modes, i.e. 16:9 full, zoom, and pillarbox. The nice thing is that the receiver remembers the setting for each channel, so you don't have to reset them all the time.
BTW, are your analog channels a lot louder than the digital ones? That's aggravating, and if I switch the TV back to its own tuner the volume is even louder. You'd think this high tech stuff would be able to maintain a consistent listening level among different sources, and keep the commercials from blowing me away. I use the half-mute feature a lot during the commercials, but it's a hassle having to grab for the remote every time a commercial comes on.

Yes, that is one thing I noticed is the difference in volume between the standard and digital channels.

After reading your post, I set the TS360 on Native 3, which passes through whatever it's receiving, switched to a channel that was broadcasting at 720p, and tried changing the formats. Nothing changed from 16:9, zoom, zoom1, or panorama. Pillarbox made everything tall and skinny without changing the aspect of the screen. I tried it on all the channels, and same thing.

I definately need to play around with all this stuff a lot more before I understand how it all plays together.
