Is it just me or does anyone else thinks tonight's broadcast of the opening cermonies sucked. Apparently around 11:00 pm, someone must have pulled the plug on the HD thingie over at WFLA because they switched to the SD broadcast for about 1/2 hour...when they came back to HD, they had jumped over a lot of the countries. Then they decided to show that stupid 10 minute video of Greece (which they have been doing about every hour), and when they came back, yet again more countries missed. Don't they take this thing seriously over there at NBC?

It took me a while to figure out why the 8-1 coverage looked so different from the analog 8 coverage. I watched it for a good half hour before I figured out they had a large delay(2hrs?) on the 8-1 coverage.
The picture quality was great on my setup, and the ceremony was great. I liked the way they covered the greek themes, and was interested to see how they cut the cameras or zoomed back whenever costumes were dropped off and revealed some nudity, except for the marching statues of david.
I did notice where they had a dropout, and then came back with previous coverage.
It was nice to see some real HD stuff for a change, after watching the mostly low-res hurricane pictures all day.

For those of you who did not see or record the 2am repeat of the opening ceremonies, you missed a LOT!! WFLA in their infinate wisdom edited out a MAJOR theatric portion in the primetime feed. I BHN TIVO'd it and just watched it this morning. The best part was cut out of the 8 o'clock broadcast. What a joke WFLA is.

It is not WFLA as much as NBC network.
Not only was the HD coverage of the opening ceremony one hour delayed, but all the rest will be delayed 1 day.
According to the schedule the 8-1 will cover the opening ceremony repeated every 4 hours for the entire day.
All the sports covered today SD will be on 8-1 in HD tomorrow.
That has to be the stupidest HD coverage of all time.

Correction to bdraw's statement.. 8-2 will be the SD coverage while 8-1 will be the HD delay.

Okay.... I was trying to figure this out as well but it looks like what you stated above seems to be right. Now for my opinion..... STUPID. So all the HD coverage that's been promoted before the games is actually TAPED and not LIVE. Let me guess... all the video is recored SD one day and then within 24 hours is upconverted to HD for re-broadcast. What a joke.

they did the same thing with the winter olympics, 1 day delay...they put the priority on the crappy looking video....what a bunch of morons
I'm not watching it..I don't want to watch it in sd and I don't want to see it a day after it happened so they lost a viewer.

At least some of you have the option of watching it in HD...

The HD is true HD not upcoverted.
If they have the HD camera there why braodcast it in SD?
That is the stupidest thing ever. What makes thing worse is that the guide for 24 hour HD feed is not very descriptive.
Once again NBC shows that when it comes to HD they just don't get it.
Let just be glad that they don't most other major sports.

I can understand why ch 8 had the opening ceremony on HD 8-1, but why continue to play it over and over all day today while showing the ongoing events in SD on 8-2? Aren't the swimming and gymnastic events sent over here in HD? I realize that they can put out two full HD channels locally without tileing, but gee, I've seen the opening ceremony enough allready!

Anyone sick of the Sony commercial yet?
If my wife has the remote, as soon as that commercial comes on the channel gets changed to the SD 8.2 version.
I hope they have a few more commercials, 2 weeks of this same thing!!!
Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh....

I think I finally figured out what has happening.
NBC sucks we know that, well they didn't bring any HD camera's to the Olympics. (This is a fact all HD camera's are NHK's) So since Japan's NHK's does what it wants with the HD camera's NBC couldn't control what events it was going to cover. So rather than no have any HD coverage. The SD feeds are produced with NBC's SD equipment, and the HD coverage is NBC leaching off NHK's HD production. That is why there are so little commercials. It is sad that we are represented to the world by our worst Network, they should have had a tryout like the rest of the sports.
The other thing that I have realized that sucks, is that there is not going to be any other NBC HD coverage for the next two weeks. No Leno no nothing.
For once the BHN customers really aren't missing much in the next two weeks.
When it comes to any type of sports coverage, NBC sucks big time.

Regardless of the politics and the BS, I've been enjoying the HD coverage. I stay away from the news, and its all new to me. If it was Monday night football being showed on Tuesday night, it would be a different story. Anyone catch that Ivet Lalova chic running the womens 100m? I love HD.

YES. That would be her. Not suprisingly, those were the only photos that I could find with Google. A couple others, but those were the best.
