I don't completly understand the HD coverage.
First off does our affiliate have the ability to pass along the DD 5.1 signal?
Will the primetime coverage scheduled for NBC be on 8.1 be in HD?
What exactly is the 24 hour HD delayed loop? How can I watch it? Will there be a new sub channel or will it be on 8.1?

Well I am trying to watch the Opening Ceremonies in HD but no go. 8-1 is showing the Winter Olympics from 2002 and 8-2 is showing opening ceremonies in SD :(

Hang in there. I think NBC is showing the 2002 Winter Games as a fill in until the opening ceremonies later on. At least that was the impression that I got when I turned it on. Be thankful we have DirecTV instead of BH!

I had read somewhere that the HD feed will only be on delay of the SD feed.
I didn't think it was true considering it was the stupidest thing I had ever heard. But I guess it is. I hope I am wrong.
Imagine if they delayed the HD version of the SuperBowl 4 hours.
How stupid would that be?

Yep you are correct. Was an hour delay! I wonder if all the events will be this way?

It is definately 2/0. I can't think of a time that I received 5.1 from our local NBC station. The paper boat was a nice touch though

Mine auto decodes too, however it's never detected 5.1 on 8-1. The only LOCAL stations I've ever detected 5.1 on is 10 or 28. I'm gonna let it run on 8-1 a while and see if something comes across 5.1.

Mine is also automatically detected 2.0.
A real test would be for you to disconnect your center channel, if you can't hear the annoncers anymore than you are hearing 5.1.

Hmm I will have to do that later. To be quite honest all of my channels display as 5.1. I have a Samsung OTA tuner running through fiber set on digital audio. Maybe it just makes my reciever think its 5.1 when it really isn't. Anyone else using a Samsung?

I've got the Samsung T-160 with audio running into a Sony STR-DE597 via the digital optical cable. Sony receiver is set on A.F.D.. On CBS and ABC the sound field (which speakers are used) changes depending on the program. Sometimes it's just left and right, sometimes it adds the center, sometimes it's full surround. It just depends on the program. FOX13 is always just left and right. I can't remember ever hearing center on that channel. NBC sometimes has the center on but I just checked and the Olympics are just left and right.

I have the Samsung T160 as well and when I watch the olympics just voice comes out of center channel.

At the beginning of each broadcast, they display:
"Presented in Dolby Pro-Logic II"
I have a 500 watt Onkyo amp and it says Dolby Digital 5.1 and not Prologic II on the NBC OTA Olympic coverage.
Here's some interesting information on NBC's Olympic coverage:

Looks like I am getting 5.1 now too. Maybe it isn't 5.1 all the time or maybe NBC got their act together locally and fixed it, either way it is always nice to get 5.1, hopefully we will get 5.1 for some of the NBC shows too when the new season gets started.

Just to follow up...
I'm getting 5.1 now too! But I've only heard it on HD 8-1, not digital 8-2.
