This past weekend I had scheduled an install for FIOS Broadband 5/2. It was scheduled between 8:00am and 11:00am on Saturday.

On Thursday, the outside crew ran the Fiber from two homes down to my home.

On Saturday, David, the Verizon tech, showed up about 8:30am. I wasn't home but my wife was. David, according to my wife, was really nice and was only there for about 90 minutes. I already prewired my home so all David did was connect my cable to the box outside.

He then plugged in the Verizon supplied D-Link wireless router into my cable in my office and tested the router. After my wife created an account (email) he went on his way.

I still have Road Runner and will continue to have it for a couple of weeks. I want to do some comparisons before I cancel RR.

Question: The tech never supplied me with the PPPoE username and password. I want it because I probably will change the router. Did they supply you with yours? Did you have to call to get it? Do you even know yours?

FYI: Verizon uses the T568B wiring standard.

Also FYI: In order to use their SMTP server (outgoing.verizon.net) with your own domain (mail@yourdomain.com) you must authenicate your account. If not you will need to use their email account in the FROM: section (mail@verizon.net) for your email.

The login process is open right now, meaning you can use anything as username/password. When I first had FIOS installed, I had to use my username and password. Verizon recently just shipped me a new router, and the instructions said to just plug it in. Looking at the PPPoE page of the router, it has PPPoEuser as the username, and I don't know what password, but it connects just fine.

I just ordered FiOS with there HD package & DVR.
I have a 50" plasma & have had D* for about a year.
Will there be major improvement in the picture quality with the FioS HD service ?
Thanks for the feedback.

Well you either have 2 options. One would be to use a router, whether it is wireless or wired. The other option would be to use Windows ICS connection, in which your modem is plugged into your pc through usb, and connected to your 360 with a RJ-45 cord.

If your not familiar using Windows ICS, try using a program called WinRoute.
