Hi Greg, we just bought a new house in St. Pete that has a detached garage with an apartment above it. I am going to be using this as my home office. I just called to inquire about new service and was told that since the back apartment has its own electric meter (but shares the water meter with the main house) that I would need to get seperate cable service there.
Can you confirm or deny? I need roadrunner and would like TV back there for me during the day, but certainly not if it means having to pay a whole seperate bill. Hopefully the sales person I just talked to was incorrect, but I'd like to get your take on it.
Thanks!
Aaron

Sales people... Just tell them you want "three" outlets (or whatever) and when the installer guy comes, tell him one goes to the room above the apartment. He should be able to burry the cable from the hook up point on the house to the apartment. Put a splitter on it for RR and TV.
Or do the cabling yourself. Just remember, RR will not work through an amp.
No, I do not work for or represent BHN, but I am interested in Gregs response.

yeah, there are different ways around it for sure. I just was more curious on BHN's actual rules and regulations. I can see where this would apply. Certainly if we were renting out the apartment to someone, I could see where they'd want to get 2 seperate installs.
But we've already signed an afidavid for the city saying we are using it for our own personal use (i.e. not renting it) and that dropped our monthly trash pickup and some other utiities pretty substantially. We're also doing a pretty big re-model, which will bring the access stairs to the apartment from the alleyway now, into out backyard. So I think there's more than enough to say that this really is just an additional room in the house, it just happens to be detached.

Just wanted to say if Greg doesn't check this board that often and if any of the other BHN guys can comment (I think there are a few) that's ok too.

He usually checks in once in a while.. I'll email him to let him know about your question.
Edit: Just sent him the email.

Bschneider,
You're right in that I don't have time to check the board as often as I used to, so I appreciate the email heads up to check in.
Amheck,
Without knowing how the address is coded in the billing system, it's impossible for me to answer accurately. It may be that the previous occupant had it set up as two separate addresses (sounds like this is the case), in which I think we could probably re-"survey" the property and adjust the configuration in the system. It would require sending one of our plant construction guys by, and I'll have to let you know.
If you send me the address and the "real name" on the account (looking up "amheck" in the billing system isn't going to get me very far), I'll push it to the right folks. Ultimately, since it's a Pinellas residence and not part of my operation, it's their decision. But I can plead your case.
Just PM me the info, and I'll remember to check back and look for it.

Got it. And we're working the issue (including the extra outlets).
