I'm thinking of buying a new TV with a built-in ATSC Tuner (Maybe I can finally get NBC-HD) and a CableCARD slot.

Has anyone heard if BHN plans on using CableCARD technology to replace/supplement its fleet Set-Top Boxes?

BHN has to support CableCard as of July 1st 2004. If they don't they will be in violation of a FCC mandate. Whether they are prepared for it or not is another question all togeather I would also be interested in knowing.
Personlly I am looking forward to a HDReplayTV w/ cablecard.

The other question is how much will they charge you to rent the CableCard. I have heard rumor as high as $5.00 per month. I hope this is not the case.

Since 50% of TV's 36" and larger have to have an integrated tunner by July 1st 2004, and no manufacturers have annonced a integrated tunner tv for next year without a CableCard I think it will be fairly wide spread. It seems that the MSPR for a TV with a integrated tunner is ~400 more than the same TV without. But this should drop over the next 12 months.

The side of me that wants to see the DTV transition speed up says go buy one today, but I think the smart money waits till the 05 model year TV's are out this Fall.

Bright house will support cable card. However currently it will be limited in its functions. It will only act as one-way addressable. You will not be able to receive the interactive channel guide, order any on-demand movies or any pay-per-view, pay-per-views will require a phone call to BHN.

I don't think many people will miss BHN Program guide. It has to be one of the worst in the business. Most TV manufactures are providing IPG's with their CableCard TV's, lets just hope that they are better than BHN's.

Until BHN starts to offer HD PPV, or HD VOD, this is no major loss either. I don't know who would watch 4x3 DD2.0 movie on their expensive Home Theater setup anyways.

Who knows by the time BHN starts to offer HD VOD or HD PPV the FCC may approve a two way agreement.

I agree about the ppv/vod. If they would even make it 16:9, I might order the movies on occasion.

we purchased Big Fish and it was fine in all its 9ft SD 4:3 widescreen, but still had to zoom with the # key, glory

Yep Netflix rocks, especially if you have a HTPC with a large Hard drive and some very interesting software.
