View Full Version : Over The Air Pixelization - Error Correction

I live in Clearwater Beach. I have a MyHD 120 card. I have really good signals on most Digital Signals (including PAX and WTTA when they decide to broadcast at full power).
However, generally once every 30 minutes or so, I will get a quick pixelization which essentially is enough errors that the error correction couldnt compensate from.
I don't see the same issues when watching BHN 610/613/628 etc - although they have their own drop out issues.
Only curious about those using OTA tuners. Do you see this in a typical 30 min/60 min or not?
Also curious what area of Tampa Bay you are in if you do or do not see this.

I occasionally get a quick pixelization, usually associated with quick movement on the screen. I also sometimes get a complete loss of audio and video for a second or so, which is aggravating, but usually is gone the following night. Every now and then I get a loss that actually brings up a brief green screen, but I don't know what that means.
Some of the losses I attribute to the station, since the quippers on the AVS forum seem to have the same losses I have during major HDTV events like the awards shows, which I sometimes watch just to be able to follow along with the live commentary on AVS during the event. Other losses I have from time to time seem like a buffer overrun, and I speculate that they may be caused by occasional multipath when a plane is going over the house. You can see the effect on an analog station, and I wonder if it messes up a digital signal also. I plan to change my antenna amp to another brand to see if that helps.

I was thinking of changing antenna as well - I don't have as severe problems as you - I usually only get 1 slight pixelization every 30/60 minutes.
I will eliminate tuner issue when I return from Hawaii now that I have multiple ATSC tuners.
I find it very strange as sometimes I have close to 100% signal strength, and its clearly error correction past the point of being correctable that is causing this.
I don't think its a plane or the like as those should be able to be corrected.
I am wondering if its my antenna, even though it has done an incredible job - sometimes picking up Orlando and Ft. Myers when the inversion is good.
