Folks FYI -

After all the issues I had been having I borrowed my neighbors new Hughes DTV Box for a night.

I set it up did a channel scan and wala - worked like a dream - even on ch. 8-1 where I have issues....

I was told by Dish that their decoder chip doesn't like PSIP information that doesnt update when the stream changes -

I was told that DirecTV box didn't have this issue. I was told well they use newer chips than we do. I asked about upgrades and they said we don't do that but I can sell you a new box for 399 but the chip is still the same.

I hate to go back but - off to DTV I go

I have the Model 6000 for Dish and the Hughes E-86 for D***. It is no contest the 6000 is not a good piece of equipment feature wise. The picture is fine but the guide and menus are horrible. It is impossible to surf with this machine. You can scan ahead about 2 hours when you see the dreaded "Please wait or cancel". The wait is often in the minutes. Fan noise is a problem.

The E-86 is a near perfect stb IMHO. It has an integrated program guide and is lightning fast.

I'm by no means a fan of Dish, having been a heavy subscriber and equipment buyer for many years and long sufferer of lousy guides and switch failures. But the old 6000 can be had for 150 bucks and yes it does produce a fine hdtv pic. And since I started paying the two bucks a month for the service policy they have shipped me replacement product overnight with a phone call. But I wouldn't start over with em....

I have two HD boxes (one DVR) and everything is just fine. I didn't go for the two-room box because it only sends SD to second set and only recorded programs.

It would be nice to be able to have one box for two rooms, HD and all, without having to rent a new box but I'm still pleased with Dish Network.
