Today I installed a new Sony Vega home theater system for a customer. He had a new Sony dream machine audio system to go with it. I connected the component and audio outputs of his Brighthouse Pace HD box to the TV, and then ran another audio cable set from the TV to the Audio receiver/amp. The audio out on the TV was menu configurable for variable or fixed out. I found that I had to turn the amp practically all the way up to get a loud sound level. The tuner in the amp produced a loud level at a volume setting of 10 on a scale of 0-30. I tried configuring the audio out on the TV to the fixed setting, and I think that it wasn't even as loud as the fixed setting. I ended up leaving the TV speakers on to provide additional sound to filll the room better.
Why didn't I just run the audio output over to the amp from the pace box? Well, for one thing there are a number of people in the house, and I wanted to have some TV sound, even with the amp off. And the other reason is that the Variable audio out of the TV will allow the amp volume to be adjusted with the TV remote.
Does anyone else have the problem of low audio levels out of monitors. Seems I have the problem alll the time. I wonder why they don't have more output, to match the level that the amp's built-in tuner or DVD has?

Don't know that I can answer your question Floyd aside from saying that I turn on my amp to watch TV and that's never a problem. I just use the remote to control the box station and to control amp voluem.

I had a similar configuration with a Sony 32" fed by a Sony DirecTV receiver, using the variable out of the TV to feed a surround receiver. There was plenty of output. Either newer models of Sony have lower audio out (how's the output using the Wega's tuner?) or the Pace box output is low feeding the input of Wega, the most likely scenario. Don't know if the Pace box audio out is controllable, but if so, is it cranked up all the way?

Good question. Maybe the pace box has the volume turned down somewhat. I unplugged it several times, but maybe the volume stays low. I'll contact the homeowner to see.
