I have a Toshiba 52hm84 DLP HDTV, what are your thoughts on the value of getting this IFS calibrated?

Back in the good ol' days of CRT, getting an ISF tech out was essential. Now with the advent of digital displays you can do 99% of the work yourself by picking up either Avia or Digital Video Essentials.

Personally I use Avia for all my calibration needs.

It has been a while since I bought my copy of Avia, but you should be able to pick it up in any highend AV store (or, of course, order it online).

An ISF calibration is as much an education as anything else.
When Greg Loewen of LionAV.com did my TV he taught me alot about calibrating my TV.

If you are big time DIY person than knock yourself out and give it go, but if don't want to spend too much time researching, but are still interested in having the best possible PQ on your TV and want to know it's done right, give Greg a call. He comes to Tampa a few times a year and if more than happy to explain what he is doing and the science behind a calibration.

As a side note he is also one of the guys who helped bring the SpyderTV to market and I have seen him at a few trade shows working their booth. He was at EHX in Orlando last year and might be there again in a few weeks.

I recently purchased the Datacolor Spyder TV for calibrating my Toshiba plasma. Love the results and it is quite easy to do. Got mine on EBay.
