I'm considering trying fios.
But, I absolutely will not consider it without an HDDVR - and - I'm not going to go buy one.
Anyone know?

Verizon only offers an HD DVR so your set. They don't even offer an SD DVR as their HD DVR is being used for SD customers as well as HD customers. The HD DVR has no upfront costs and as such you will pay a rental charge of 12.95/month per HD DVR box. You don't have to pay an extra DVR fee either so the 12.95/month price is the final price per box with no extra charges. If like me you get three HD DVR boxes its much cheaper with Verizon than with BHN.
I pay BHN the following below for my three HD DVR boxes.
6.95/month rental times 3 = 21.00/month.
9.95/month DVR fee times 3 = 30.00/month.
Combine the two above and I pay BHN 51.00/month total for my three HD DVR boxes.
With Verizon I will only be paying 12.95/month times 3 or a total of 39.00/month. That alone saves me 12.00/month for my DVR boxes or about 145.00/year which is quite a bit of money. Should I say almost an entire months service.
If you need an SD DVR the cost is about the same as BHN. With Bright House you pay the rental above per box but the DVR service fee is only 6.95/month per box for an SD DVR. But with three SD DVR boxes you still save 3 bucks a month with Verizon and your ready for HDTV as you have the box in place and what is better is your bill won't go up when you get that HDTV set. You would have the HD DVR boxes in place and the HD channels don't cost extra either. All it takes is connecting different cables and changing the setting in the box from SD to HD.
