PACE BOX UPDATE
In the system today. To update your pace box, unplug for 5 seconds, then during reboot, it will update itself. May take 10-15 minutes. After that, reboot time should return to normal.

Please post feedback here about the update process.
Did your box have some problem while doing the update?

So what's new with this update?

Ok I came home and I check the software version on page 3/17, no change.

So I soft reset my box by pressing Pause till the envelope showed up above the clock, then hit PAGE DOWN one time then hit the STOP button 3 times, and in about 30 seconds the box will reboot it self. ( Thanks Warren for reminding me of this sequence)

After a few seconds my box starting couting down from around 400, then it went blank, and did a few more things a couple of mins later the clock came back on. So I turned it back on and I can't tell the difference. I don't use DVI so maybe this update didn't effect me. I have not seen one audio or video problem since, which is very abnormal.

I went through the many pages of the menu and I can't seem to find any numbers that were updated.

Does anyone know how to confirm our version, with out calling BHN?

bdraw,
all i can say is "did you follow the instructions"?
it doesn't appear to me that you did.
all you had to do was unplug it (like everyone else did) and wait.
no more data is available to answer your question.
jaymer...

SteveDu_now i know what you have to go through over there.

Thanks for tbe email and info about the update. I won't get a chance to check it out until I get back from the other Bay Area. Probably Sunday ...

Whatever Jaymer,
Some people unplug their computer when it won't shutdown some people hold the power button for 10 seconds.
Obviously you are the type that unplug's it.

I guess the real answer is you don't know how to tell.
Why didn't you just say you don't know how to confirm that the box was updated? Or I guess you did "no more data is available to answer your question."= "I don't know".

bdraw, i don't know why you have to constantly bust my balls on my own website. does that make a lot of sense?

you didn't follow the instructions, and now you don't know if your update worked. pushing reset on a PC is not the same as a cold boot. good luck in finding your answer. i don't know how to tell.

I call it like I see it where ever I am. I don't mean offense,

Who said anything about pushing reset on a computer? Not me. I said hold down the power button.

My point was there is more than one way to do most everything. It doesn't mean one way is wrong and one way is right. They are just different.

But just in case I tried it your way.
I still don't think I got the update. I went through all the pages of the system menu, and none of the software version numbers were updated.

For anyone that thinks they didn't get the update. It's possible that you didn't get it. :? Whenever an update goes out there's always the stubborn boxes that didn't take it correctly. And for the nice little arguement going on in the post previous, with the digital boxes you will always want to do a cold reboot when it's concerning an update. Warm reboots work fine for other issues but not always the best. :D

Lets take a logical approce to this till we hear from Pace.

On Page 3/17 of the Pace menu under software Versions for App(s):
SARA v1.41.9a7 (This did not change in the past week.)

On page 17/17 Titled Component Information
ROM Image 2.4.12.11002 1/22/04 5:11:07 PM EST
OS 2.4.12.11002 10/29/03 4:18:55 PM PST
Res App 1.41.9.0 a 8/28/03 3:21:16 PM EDT
HAL driver 1.330.2.25 1/22/04 5:10:58 PM EST

Based on the fact that the latest date I have here is 1/22/04 I would assume that my box has not recieved the upgrade. But it didn't have a problem updating last time.
Also when I woke up this morning the box was reset, but still no change in these values. It nothing else indicates that the power went out.(clocks are still set)

Can someone else verify these numbers?

In case you don't know already. To get into the service menu hold down the + button on the front of the box till the message shows up above the clock then hit info use the Vol buttons on the front of the box to change pages. The page number is at the bottom of the page. (thanks Warren :)

For those of you that know how to enter diagnostics. Look at page 17 for the info after HAL Driver. The new code is 1.330.2.25, if you have 1.301.2.12 that is the old code.

Can somebody tell me here or by email how to get into the diagnostics, or is there a manual somewhere that I can access?

Thanks,
David

I'm a BHN customer in Orlando with a Pace 550 and a Samsung 5065 DLP. I've read some steps (select until mail icon, then info) for accessing the Pace service menu, but it absolutely doesn't work for me. Any ideas? I'd like to see what software I've got loaded since DVI so doesn't work. You Tampa guys are lucky to have your issues cleared up already...

Make sure you are using the buttons on the front of the box, and not the buttons on the remote.

No, no, I'm trying from the front panel just as instructed. No mail icon EVER shows up. Do you have to be in a particular format? (480i/p ????) Is it different firmware than you Tampa guys have?

BTW- when I'm switching display modes from the front panel, I DO see a mail icon when I've selected 480i, but its gone as soon as I exit the display menu.

Orlando doesnt run the same software in there box as we do here in the tampabay area. So I dont think they have the same menu or get into it like we do here in the tampabay area. My Dad lives in Ocala and had brighthouse and they have totally different software.. Guide looks different... Wont work the same... I know the Gm from Orlando monitors here he could tell you for sure..

HOpe this helps

Tampa runs SARA which is where the "select until mail icon flashes" thing comes from. In Orlando they use Pioneer/Passport which is a totally different software layer so I doubt the commands would be the same. Look at it this way, you may not be able to get to the diag screens like we do over here, but you have a lot better looking GUI - anyone who has seen both will know what I mean.

but unfortunately for us, the SARA software sucks on the SA8300HD DVR compared to the passport version... its WAYYYYY behind, and of course buggy and feature-lacking.
