Today's SPTimes mentioned that Knology, the new company taking over the former Americast cable system, will offer HD content in their channel lineup. No timeline was given.
Knology has been coming on really strong in the Tampa Bay area, lately (have you seen any of the billboards with the missing "K" messages?). They have just penned a deal to put their name atop a Dunedin minor-league baseball stadium.

You mean BHN has a competitor in the Tampa area now?

Well, Americast has always been here. But they have no where near the penetration. Probably bad marketing held them back.
Knology will also offer broadband internet access, and has stated that the bandwidth will be double what Americast currently offers.

Here's a link to the press release. Looks like a Pinellas only thing:

Yep, its only in Pinellas county. Thats the main reason cable rates are lower here...there is actual competition for BHN.
Americast installers were known for the excellent jobs. I'm not sure if they were paid more of if they just had tighter QC, but their installations were always top notch.
I was never sure how customers heard about Americast because I never saw any advertisements for them. I install DirecTV and customers seem to be leaving Americast/Knology in droves. They better stop with those silly billboards and start to do some great deals to get more and keep existing customers.

Befor I got my HDTV I was a Americast customer and was happy with the service for both cable TV and broadband internet. I switched to BH for the HD content. I think Americast had better picture quality on the analog stations, BH is poor on this.
