I normally start threads here at tampahdtv.com that are from the avsforum.com but I really think trbarry has a great idea.

I would really like to know what you guys think of this. I think it would be really great if our local affiliates could deploy more than just one technique(14x10) to deal with 4x3 content framed as 16x9.

If you don't read the article basicly what he is sugesting is a combination between
a top and bottom crop
a non linear stretch

He also has a great idea for those side bars.

the engineering guys down at UPN have been very cooperative and HD-friendly, to say the least.
they are doing a simple crop on the image to enlarge it a bit and toss off the bottom and top... this might give them a bit more to think of... but as I only watch Star Trek in HD, it doesn't matter to me much.
