When I woke up this morning, I found a problem/change with my Pace box. Normally, it is set on 16x9 output and my TV has no problem with the stretch modes filling the sides of the screen. This morning, it is not stretching to the edges of the screen when the TV is set to stretch mode. However, the HD channels (DiscHD) do fill the screen. Also, when I put the TV on narrow mode (with grey bars on the side), people look like they're too tall and skinny and the grey bars do not extend to the edges of the screen.

When I put the box on 4x3 output, everything is normal. Even the HD channels look fine (so far as I can tell). I've checked to make sure the box is set to PASS, but the problem still exists when I place it in 1080i or 480i.

I've reset the box, but no change.

Has anyone else noticed this or is it just my setup? Was there an update sent out last night that could have done this?

I noticed the same thing this morning.

BHN must have applied a software update from Pace last night.

Changing from 16:9 mode to 4:3 worked for me as well this morning.

Very weird. I don't think the 16:9/4:3 function worked previously on the Pace box. It obviously does something now.

Not exactly on subject but re 550hd a question. I plan on swaping my sa3100hd for the 550hd in a couple days. I have teh pace manual but am not exactly clear the HDTV display settings. If I use only the component outputs into my 4:3 TV and select the PASS mode will the STB pass the SD signals unchanged??

Yes. It will not upscale or downscale any signal in PASS mode. It will just send it in whatever form it gets (480i, 720p, 1080i).

Thanks. That will save a lot of switching inputs...

Followup. Got the Pace box yesterday. I guess BHN assumes everyone has downloaded the manual because I did not get one. Hookup went OK but after looking at the HD channels that were NOT broadcasting HD I was surprised. I was expecting all non-HD stuff to be shown in standard 4:3 format without zooming in the PASS mode. Not so. My only explanation is that the broadcast signal format is still indicating HD even though the signal is not HD. No problem using the zoom, but I would have thought that this would be automatic in the PASS mode.

BTW did evertone else receive all the subscription channels last night?

When they give you a new box, you get them for a short time .
