I just got back from a trip up north and imagine how surprised I was to see another movie channel added to their HD Pak - Sony Movie Channel HD. :D

Roger,

I have heard about this channel but are there any good movies on it?

There is a mix between some oldies (40s, 50s and 60s) and a lot 90s. I scrolled through a week of programming and they repeat some a lot but it seems they are placed at times where it best suits the viewer. Everything is in HD and part of the HD Pack. As far as the movies, it all depends on your taste and I find it a nice addition without any extra charge.

Is it commercial free? I refuse to watch MGM HD because of their interruptions, wondering if Sony is the same way.

Sounds like something BHN might put on the HD (Completely move the horrible Mav TV to sports pak) or Digital Movie pak.

I'm also hoping Fearnet HD will be added too but I did hear DTV was going to get it.

You guys seem to have the major HD channels but DTv needs to focus more on niche ones like AMC, E!, G4, etc.

the big question is do they show the movies in aor like hd net movie channel does?

AOR?

SMC is commercial free as best as I can tell (a lot of self promotion after a movie is over) and I heard a number of f-bombs dropped during some behind the scenes clips.

I haven't watched anything straight through because there are a lot of sports to watch but I saw the last 25-minutes of Little Nikita straight through.

I hate when words are blepped out even on regular cable.

I even see it on late night movies. It's very annoying.

I do like how AMC and TCM will even show nudity at night.

The few times I watched it the movies seemed to be oar but what do I know  If it fits my screen, is sharp and not appear distorted/stretched, I am happy.

ON EDIT: I just finished watching Starman on SMC - No commercials, ran straight through (unlike C&I which have breaks to toot their own programs w/o ads) and as best as I can tell it was in original aspect ratio (screen filled left to right w/small bars on top and bottom - don't know what they call it). Great addition to HD Extra Pack.

ive been getting some cool rentals from netflix like these 80s classics:

vision quest- it makes no sense they released it modified to fit screen i.e. 4x3
for old tvs-it does have an awesome s/t i.e. bands like journey, sammy hagar etc.

the last american virgin-another teen romp with great songs in it like reo
speedwagon, etc.

over the edge - this one came out in 79 but its a cool teenage movie with
matt dillon and oh so hot diane franklin with an awesome s/t with bands
like cheap trick, van halen, the cars, etc. on it

weird science with kelly lebrock and more cool songs in it

valley girl with nicolas cage- think it was his first starring role

netflix has the breakfast club on blu-ray so im hoping that fast times at
ridgemont high will be avl in blu-ray soon b/c that movie rules.

what were some of your favs from the 80s?
