Because I live in a condo I was finally able to extract myself from my Dish contract w/o penalty. It's a looooong story but suffice it to say I am pleased, thrilled actually, to get out from underneath their inferior HD and sports programming.

As I was packing up their equipment they actually called to find out why I, as a long time customer (months folks, not years), left Dish even after my account is flooded with complaints. Frankly, these people have no clue.

One thing I can argue with their commercials, their picture DOES NOT rival that of DTV, which I now have - again. Their HD signal has shadows (blacks float into grey) and because the dish is set up in a flight path of the airport my picture attually freezes for a moment making any recordings on a specific day not worthy of burning to disc.

Not enough? I understood the return of their equipment but unlike DTV when I left, they wanted the dish LNBs back and I had to play Johnny Five on it. They trust Joe Average to take things apart? Odd.

As far as I am concerned, Dish could go belly up and I would not care. I like to save money just like the next guy but I would rather pay a little more to get a lot more. My bill right now is about $11.00 more than Dish and when the first year is up it will be about $14.00 and I have oodles more HD. They are even adding more this month because of the new satellite.

If anyone is "thinking" about Dish, don't. Even if you are not a sports fan, DTV is the way to go if you want more HD choices. I am back and a happy camper now that I have YES, MLB, all RSNs who broadcast 24x7 in HD not to mention MLB Extra Innings and NFL Sunday Ticket.

Bye bye Dish, helloooooooooo DTV.

Roger,

Well done! Hope termination fee was not too much.

Spread the word on how Dish is crap for us Sports fans. They are nothing but a cheap option for non-sports fans.

I am happy for you man.

Your post has made me realize how much I take for granted being able to watch NESN in HD every night and every other HD RSN. Not to mention that on July 11th DTV is going to broadcast a few baseball games in 3D. They are also launching Discovery 3D, ESPN 3D and one more here in few months. Good move and good luck.

They wanted your Dish back? Never heard of that before!

I will give you one warning though - if a flight pattern caused you to have Ku dropouts in your DVR, Directv is almost in the same orbital position - and the Ka lobes are easily 1/3 of th size of the Ku lobes and will lose the signal (including rain fade) much faster - which might make it even worse for you.

However, you are correct - the DTV picture is superior to Dish.

HDO, I did not have to pay a termination fee. It came down to Dish not asking my condo association for permission to erect the dish in the first place and they forced them to take it down, per our condo R&Rs. Their mistake. I then asked, and received, permission to put one up for DTV. Thanks for the kudos. ;)

SRI, my dish is pointed in a completely different direction with DTV than it was with Dish. So far I have not had any dropouts or freezes in video so I believe that issue has been fixed as well.

Roger: Awesome on not having to pay a termination fee. Nice to see Dish screw up like that.

Direct TV is definitely on the rebound and while they are still missing key HD channels, the momentum is definitely in their favor in the battle with Dish.

The only people who should have Dish are non-sports fans or people who want to save money.

I'm not sure that going to Dish is saving money for non-sports fans. On balance (comparable channel selections) there isn't much difference in cost.

Side by side on customer service I take DTV over Dish and my overall experience with them leaves much to be desired. I will never make that mistake again.

It's possible. I've never tried either out.

If I ever do, it's DTV in a landslide over Dish. I'd also do them over ATT U-Verse for a second provider.

No! Competition between DTV and Dish is good. I just got 3 months of HBO, Max, Starz, and Showtime for $12.99 a month for DTV.

DTV is competing against Dish for the satellite crowd but that is just one entity. They are competing against the ENTIRE cable industry and because of that they will always have great offers.

As a matter of fact, I don't remember EVER seeing a cable commercial saying just how much better they are than satellite (thay have the triple plays and the like but in actuality DTV has the same with phone companies like Verizon for Internet (up to 7mbps) and phone).

I thought Bright House had bad customer service until I switched to Dish Network. They reek.
