I have a Yamaha RX-V655 AV receiver connected to a Brighthouse cable DVR. The DVR is a Scientific Atlanta 8300HD unit. I am using a HDMI cable from the DVR to the receiver and a HDMI cable from the reciever to a Sony Bravia TV. This system works good most of the time. However on occasion I lose sound, all sound. The only way I found to fix this problem is to turn off all the units (DVR, receiver, tv etc) and then turn them back on. Any ideas as to way this happens? Any fixes?

I too get the same occurrence. Usually I just have to power cycle the DVR. I think the problem started when the new guide was installed.

Hmmmm, I seem to have the problem on a new Sony Bravia (KDL-46V5100) HDTV. Strange thing is it only happens to this tv and not to two other HDTVs I have. I thought it was a HDMI issue and changed the cables with new ones several times. I then had the cable box changed a few times. I even had a tech test the signal strength and everything was fine. I'm starting to think it's the tv and now I'll probably change it out to a new Samsung. By the way, the sound drops are random and happens on different channels. I notice it a lot on channel 613.

I have the same issue as well. Seems to happen when I turn on the system to the last channel viewed (608 for example). The easiest way I found to fix it is to change to a channel that uses a different sound output. I usually tune to 719, wait a moment for the sound to come on then back to 608 and, like magic, I have sound again. This started happening after the guide was "upgraded".

Known issue with HDMI Handshake between Sony units and the S/A units, especially when switching inputs on the Sonys. Of course, both Sony and Cisco/S/A blame the other. As noted, sometimes it helps to go to BayNews9 (on channel 9 for example - not 609) and then back. Often that will correct the issue. Still a PITA.

I too had a similar issue...however mine dealt with a Panasonic plasma, the new navigator software, and the digital audio coax.

As it appears with the Sony, the HDMI handshake between my SA 8300HDC and my Panasonic TV caused my Dolby Digital 5.1 audio to be dropped to two channel audio. This happened if the TV or the DVR was shut off...requiring you to fix the audio setting in the menu each time you turned the systems back on. As I have an older Sony receiver that still works great (non-HDMI)...I had to go back to using Component video (which works just as good as the HDMI did) to eliminate the audio switching caused by the handshake...yet another bug in Navigator...
