This isn't OT as some use Media Center :D

I have had the RC on my, this pc, laptop since it came out and love it. Going to put the RTM on this, our desktop and my Mom's pc (family tech support) in the next 60 days.

How goes it with you?

love win7...best os MS has ever released. It's far better right out of the gate than vista was after 3 years of bug fixes and of course xp was great but it is outdated and slowly losing support from hardware vendors.

I've been using it on my Media Center for some time, it is much better than Vista. No real complaints so far.

I have to wonder about XP. MS issued new licenses for it once the netbook craze began. While W7 can run on netbooks, there is a question whether it will work with the first generation Atom processor which is pretty slow.

There is no difinitive word whether MS will discontinue support for XP because they allowed a re-release of that system.

BTW, there are loads of netbooks out there so I will be curious to see what comes out of this.

Actually I've read a couple of reviews in the last few months that said windows7 scales down for slower systems much better than vista did so you might be surprised how well it runs on netbooks. One reviewer even said it took up less harddrive space when he installed it on a smaller netbook drive than it did on his test system.

Windows 7 is great i dont recommend the 64 bit version though nothing is compatible with it yet. I had to reinstall the 32 bit version because of the incompatibility issues.

I was a 64-bit Vista user, and now a 64-bit Win7 user. There are compatibility issues, but in my experience, they have been few.

Most 32-bit software will work within a 64-bit OS. I'm waiting for Firefox (for example) to go 64, but they say that most of the plugins (Flash, for one) are still only written in 32-bit, and Adobe is seemingly in no hurry to change that. So for now, I run Firefox 32-bit, plugins and all, with no issues.

My biggest problem was the inability to find a driver for my scanner, which is seven years old anyway.

It's OK to go to 64-bit. If you're running more than 4GB of RAM, you'll need a 64-bit OS.

I just switched from 32 bit Vista to 64 bit Windows 7. Except for some transitions issues (I tired the PCMover software that was supposed to help and it didn't) it went fine and I have only found a few things that don't work quite right. The biggest issue I am having is finding all the little tuning points to get the UI back to what I am comfortable with.

Good luck with that. Some of the UI elements in previous versions, no longer exist in Windows 7. Even with Vista, I ran my desktop in the "Windows Classic" appearance, with the taskbar, start button style and menu structure that went back as far as Windows 95. That's no longer an option in Win7. You also have the new taskbar that is twice the size of the old bar at its smallest size. If someone knows of a way to take it back to the original height, I'd love to know.

So far, my list of annoyances is small, and mostly cosmetic.

I second that. I upgraded from Vista 32-bit to Windows 7 64-bit, and now I keep running into compatibility issues, mostly lack of 64-bit drivers or utilities that don't support 64-bit. I'll keep the 64-bit version for now because it's such a pain to have to do a full install when switching between 32 and 64 bit, but if 64-bit support doesn't improve over the next several months I'll have to switch back.

-right click task bar
-properties
-check "use small icons"
-apply

I wish.

I have three systems I need it on too, we got one copy for 30 bucks since my wife is still going to usf but we will have to pay full price for the other two copies we need.

If there are compatibility issues with windows 7 64 go to the program's properties and change compatibility to WinXp SP3, or Windows 98. I'm running Quake 3 Arena (1999 release) and Postal 2 (don't remember) with no problems.

I love windows 7 like others have said here on the forum. I didn't have any experience with Wondows vista but from what i understand this is light years better.
