WFTS Sports Video the worst

Letter sent several days ago to WFTS Sportscasters:

"Hi,

Did you know that WFTS has the ONLY sports programs in the Tampa Bay Area with INTENTIONALLY DISTORTED VIDEO?

When you show game footage that originally was in Standard Definition, you show the video in grotesquely distorted STRETCHED form. All the other stations either show game footage in 16 x 9 HD, or with side bars if originally from Standard Definition.

Do you know that you can learn how to use your software to avoid this distorted video?

Let somebody show you how to insert SIDE BARS so that SD-sourced video comes out looking natural in 16 x 9!

Maybe then I would come and watch your shows more often."

They know, it's because the editing equipment auto stretches the 4x3 on a 16x9 project, so the only way to do it properly is to first run the 4x3 content through a process to add the side bars. The engineer understands the problem, but evidently it isn't a big enough deal over there for management to dictate that the process is used it to the producers.

Maybe if enough people complain, they'll either update their software to a version that can handle it automatically or require producers to do it correctly.
