View Full Version : Local Channel reception after the analog turnoff?

I have a friend with a DTV HR-21 DVR that has an AM-21 ATSC tuner attached. After last saturday when they turned off the analog stations and moved several channels he can't get the channels that they moved.
He's having trouble with channels 3,10, and 44.
Those are the ones that moved.

He insists that his receiver/tuner won't scan in new channels and that the channel selection is determined by whatever channel list DTV sends out to his receiver. I say that the tuner would have to rescan the new channels to get the PSIP data.

Anyone else having this kind of problem? or not?

That seems odd. Another thing I've read works sometimes is to pull the antenna lead, then scan, which obviously won't find anything. Then plug it back in and scan and on some tuners this double re-scan will resolve the issue.

We found out how to resolve the problem. I had the same problem.
It turns out that when you go through the antenna setup menu with the intention of doing a re-scan of the available stations there is a spot where you have to enter your zip code.
I suppose the zip code lets the receiver match up the scanned channels with the proper guide information locale that is downloaded from DTV. If it isn't a new receiver the zipcode is allready entered, so you naturally just push the "continue" button and go to the next step. Unfortunately, if you don't re-enter the zip code the rescan procedure won't find any channels and you will end up with zero local channels. This is a bug that needs to be corrected in the software.

I agree, but I don't see many manufactures releasing firmware updates since changing frequencies isn't exactly a normal occurrence.

on a sidenote...D* added WWSBDT channel 40 today but for some reason it's downconverted.

I had the origional problem, as after rescan I could get off-air 3-2. but not 3-1, 3-3 or 3-4... I discovered the zip code problem to get to the off air menues, but still could not get the channels so...

I removed power from the receiver & sidecar, disconnected both antenna's, powered up, did a rescan, shut down, reconnected both antenna's & rescanned both Sat & off air channels.......

That cleared the software & solved the problem.......Ken

DirecTV is releasing software updates every couple of months, and each update contains many items that hopefully improve performance, though many have introduced new problems of their own.
If the zip code must be re-entered to get the reset of the antenna to work, then all they have to do is add a line of text to tell you that. Or, they could just have the program wipe out the zipcode each time the reset is called up. As it is now there is nothing to let you know that you have to re-enter the zipcode, other than new channels aren't found and you don't know why.
