I have been waiting for this schedule.

It seems a lot of teams released their schedules late.

Hopefully, they will have an alternate HD feed for us in Orlando.

Still, it is great to finally be able to see a ton of baseball during the summer without buying extra innings.

Like many teams, Rays are putting all their local TV games on regional cable sports networks now, no local over-the-air stations.

Here is the info on this for those of you that don't know..

Feeling The Sting: FSN Florida To Carry Rays Games Through 2016

By John Ourand (%20jourand@sportsbusinessdaily.com), Staff Writer
FSN Florida signed a multi-year extension to carry all Rays games for the next eight years through 2016, according to sources with knowledge of the talks. Specific dollar figures were not immediately available, though a source said FSN was paying a "significant boost in rights fees in exchange for all local telecast rights." Previously, the RSN carried 75 games, with local broadcaster WXPX-ION sharing the rights deal. WXPX aired 67 games this season. Now, as many as 155 games will be on FSN, with ESPN and Fox cherry-picking the rest. FSN execs approached the Rays about forming an extension before the All-Star break. The two sides agreed to a deal before the end of the regular season in September, with the contract being signed earlier this month during the playoffs. Rays games saw TV ratings and households in the Tampa/St. Pete market nearly double this season, posting a franchise high 3.47 rating, up 99% from a 1.74 in '07, and 62,000 HHs, up 100% from 31,000 HHs last year.

But since we don't have dedicated FSN/Sunshine HD channels, won't we be stuck with the dumb "HD Special Event 1/2" channels to get the HD feeds? I can't even record those since the guide never shows what's actually on.

ramarc,
I assume you're talking about BHN right, as FiOS, DirecTV and Dish all have dedicated FSN HD channels?

With BH we only gets the games but unlike in Tampa where you guys have two seperate feeds, we have one shared feed.

This extra will definitely be needed come September when they have college football on Saturdays and Marlins and Rays HD games are up against each other.

BTW: I did a count on the HD games for both.

I counted 97 Rays and 99 Marlins games in HD.

Not only that, some flunky has to manually switch each of the games onto those 'HD Special' channels. Past experience has shown that many such game broadcasts have been started late or NOT APPEARED AT ALL because some moron forgot to do his job. Or worse, have the SD games show up on those channels all stretched out.

But since we don't have dedicated FSN/Sunshine HD channels, won't we be stuck with the dumb "HD Special Event 1/2" channels to get the HD feeds? I can't even record those since the guide never shows what's actually on.

I was thinking it's a shame that I won't be able to use my little portable battery operated tv to catch OTA broadcasts of Rays games this year when I'm outdoors or away from home. Then I realized, after June 12, I won't be able to use my little portable battery operated analog tv for anything.

You can buy portable digital TVs now, although that doesn't really help in this case.

I wonder if both games will be on TV today.

It sure was nice to catch parts of the Marlins in HD before I switched to the Yankees game.

Verizon and Knology not showing Rays games on Sun Sports

Customers who have Verizon or Knology as its cable company, as of now, will not see Wednesday's Tampa Bay Rays game against the Boston Red Sox on Sun Sports. And, as of now, those customers will not see any of the 75 Rays games scheduled to be broadcast on Sun Sports. The dispute is over the fees the cable companies would pay Sun Sports for the Rays games.

Sun Sports continues to hold negotiations with Verizon, but Sun Sports spokesperson Amy Pempel said Knology has declined the offer to show those particular Rays games. Pempel said she was not aware of any current negotiations with Knology.

Verizon spokesperson Bob Elek confirmed Verizon is negotiating with Sun Sports, and said, "We hope to have an agreement soon so we can show the games, but right now we are looking for an agreement that is in the best interests of our customers.''

The 75 Rays games on FSN are not effected and can be seen on Verizon and Knology, as well as other the other local cable and satellite companies -- Bright House Networks, the Dish Network and DirecTV.

Bright House, Dish TV and DirecTV will carry the Rays games on Sun Sports.
