View Full Version : WFLA-DT Should Be Embarrassed.....

Everytime I looked at a monitor during the Superbowl of the local broadcast, all I saw was Macroblocking. So when I got home, I pulled some scenes from WFLA-DT and WNBC-DT out of NY via Directv.

Remember that WFLA-DT is running their crappy Harris NetVX Encoder and had RTN on at the same time.

WNBC-DT runs 2 subchannels, not one. Furthermore, it was taking an additional conversion from OTA ATSC to MPEG4 for Directv Distribution.

WFLA-DT continues their tradition of screwing HDTV to the Max....

BTW, these were taken off the same screen with a cellphone camera - it looks worse in detail!!!!

I REALLY feel sorry for anyone who had to watch this game via NewsChannel 8.

First they do not show all the shows in HD (ET, etc) and then when they do, it looks like this crap!!!!

Not to mention their fine 480i 16:9 from the NFL Experience Set....

Really, shouldn't they take the money they spent on Billboards and Ads in the Stadium and actually spend it on doing something right OTA?

Hang on to your hats, this Digital Transition period is sure to have more rough bumps before it is over.

This has nothing to do with the Digital Transition period.

This is just further proof of my statements in this thread (http://www.tampahdtv.com/tpahd-vb/showthread.php?t=27541) when we were discussing the new programing on the sub-channel. Thanks for the photos.

That is not surprising, but what is really sad is that at this point I'm used to it and I've seen worse.

I really don't understand why they don't care about this. Especially when their flagship obviously looks so much better despite running more sub channels.

But hey, at least those who don't like football could enjoy Happy days on 8.2!

As for why NBC (No Body Cares), with their ratings, as long as the program is carried, they don't care. All but what, 10 people in Tampa know how bad it is in comparison?

Here's the biggest shock....found out today that they never installed the Harris NetVX encoders, but using Tandbergs with StatMux.

Tandbergs can look much better than this....but of course, someone has to care.

As for WFLA and their attitude...did you happen to see NBC Today this morning, live from the roof of WFLA?

Using WFLA's equipment the lag from Tampa was so bad that Matt and Meridith were stepping all over each other....it was embarrassing....so bad that they finally quite having them talk between each other.
