My brother-in-law is about to give the "other" cable system installed in his Pinellas neighborhood - Knology (formerly Comcast) - a try.

Is there so little Knology interest here that a separate forum was never set up for it?

Knology in St. Petersburg was never Comcast. It was built from the ground up as Americast by GTE (GTE is half of Verizon before the merger with Bell Atlantic)

I should have said Americast. Thanks.

That is correct. We haven't had many Knology posts here. In fact I don't recall any since we started. If we start to get some posts, I'll be happy to create a separate one for Knology.

Too bad. I had hoped to find some useful Knology customer experiences here to share with my brother-in-law.

I service residential and business computer users networks and computers and I will tell you from my residential customer's experience, Knology's Internet is slower and more problematic than that of Brighthouse's Roadrunner cable modem equivalent. I don't usually say anything to my customers about that, as they usually pay less with Knology so it is a perhaps a fair trade off to pay a little less and average speeds like 3down,256 or 512 up.

I recently checked out their channel lineup and they have Starz, Showtime, and TMC in HD, which BHN does not. As far as TV, FIOS blows any of them away. I can't wait to get mine installed this week.

After a 1 year experiement w/o cable or satellite (I was a D* sub since 2003), I bit the bullet and had knology installed just for baseball this year. They actually bury the line from the curb to the house in conduit. I kept BH for internet-I tried Knology for two days and its just not fast enough (I have RR Lightning). I talked to a really nice knology tech who said Docsis 3 equipment is coming to this market in December which should give them competitive speeds.

We watched nothing but DVR'ed OTA via media center and 3 xbox 360s for a year supplemented with netflix streaming. After having cable for a week my family wants to know why I think its worth it (they didn't miss it at all). I finally decided that for college football and the rays games, the $80 was worth it, at least through football season.

I really like knology so far, responsive, nice people. They are deploying newer CISCO dvr's although they are using the old firmware-I assume they will update at some point. I have a large grudge against BH for fighting NFL Network and being part of the worst cable franchise in america, TWC.

Knology is pretty outdated. According to the website they still only have the flagship of each premium in HD. That is pathetic in 2010. No HBO west HD... No Moremax in HD... no Showtime Too in HD...etc.

Regarding "nice people:" I would rather have horrible people with a ton of channels than excellent people with a piss poor channel lineup. But maybe that is just me. That is what I liked about FIOS. Get past the initial problems and never have to deal with them and you get a great lineup.

I'm with Knology myself with cable/phone/Internet. We have about 20 HD channels and no VOD. They keep promising that they are going to add more channels and VOD. I'm starting to get tired of waiting though. We are paying about the same as Brighthouse and Verizon are asking. Thinking of switching possibly this weekend, but it's just a pain to go about it all since everything works reliably. I've had no issues with Knology's service. It's always up, so I kind of hate to switch to the unknown as far as reliability goes.
