Post both the good and the bad about the new software updates here. I will compile a list and bring it to the attention of BHN engineering.

Where to begin? They need to fix the simple things first, which should be easy and risk-free for the developers:

1) Make more effective use of screen area in the guide by utilizing the blank space on the left and reducing the font size.

2) Restore available information to the guide, such as the complete title and actors/directors, etc. :!:

3) Add back the 15-minute jump feature to ff/rew. :x

Next address the big issues:

1) Make the guide 16x9.

2) Fix the damn crashing!

My 3250HD (component) was switched a while back and has never crashed. My 8300HD (HDMI) was gatored this week and has yet to crash. I have read reports from others that the 8300HDC crashed just by hitting channel up three times in a row. When you are reporting issues or new features you like please indicate what hardware you are using. 8300HD vs. 8300HDC or 3250HD vs. 4250HDC etc...

My thoughts on the new software so far. If they can fix the crashes first, and second tweak a few of the things that are missing from this software that we had in the old one, I think it could actually be nicer (if the crashes get fixed)

Likes:

I actually like the new user interface and the subtle fade ins and outs
Sorting with favorites at the top is cool
I like how the ondemand channels highlight New programs

Problems:

Crashes = Bad
Screensaver doesn't mask properly in widescreen (paused program shines through the sides!)
While I like the new UI, it would be super to be able to reduce the font size some to get more text on the screen (perhaps a setting choice?)
Widescreen Guide would be awesome
Show List needs a place to show the full title of the program, with the larger font too many shows get their name truncated and their is no other place it shows on this screen. (this one is pretty annoying)
Folks say some versions can't prioritize scheduled recordings (mine can) but this is a seriously important feature
Can't search for a show by selecting it in the guide and hitting search
I feel like we used to be able to jump to the beginning of the buffer easier in the old software
Can't jump through the guide by pressing favorite
I think we used to have 4 steps of FF instead of 3
While we can jump 15 minute by holding FF, the old way was quicker by just hitting right arrow while fast forwarding

Anyone have some pictures (or have a link to some) of this new UI for those in Tampa to see what they're missing?

Is there a list of differences between the 8300HD (post upgrade) and 8300HDC? I added an 8300HDC before the 8300HD got upgraded, so I assumed I would know what the new software was going to be like. Now that my 8300HD has been upgraded, I am finding some surprising differences between them.

One can adjust the banner duration, one cannot. (minor quirk)
One shows which shows will be deleted (but gives no timeline), one deletes with no warning. (both are big issues to me)
Neither one can let me prioritize the recorded shows so that I control what gets deleted first (big issue to me).

As you know I hate the idea that I can no longer have the gray side bars. I know some don't care. (They should all forms of TV picture devices are subject to burn in, even LCD. It just takes longer to happen in some cases.) I would be nice to tell us in advance in the guide if the program will be in HD or not (it used to say that). And please give us some idea what is the program is actually about, the descriptions give minimalist a new meaning.

:D Thanks for pointing out this feature that I thought was missing! I can swear I tried holding down FFwd/RWnd when I was first experimenting with the new software, but I guess I didn't press them long enough.

He had the Navigator software downloaded to his cable box.

Sure enough all I had to do was post that my Navigator boxes had not crashed and bam! they both went down within 12 hours of each other. I was watching HD VOD on the 8300HD, paused to freshen my drink and it never recovered. Boot. The good news was the show remembered right where I left off and the wife was impressed. The 3250HD was not working hard at all. Hit the guide button and it booted. I am going to request the software be changed so after a reboot the box is left in the power ON position.

As I've been playing with the software for two weeks now, one thing that is REALLY bugging me is the rewind overshoot correction. It is set to a very annoying amount. So much so that I often have to rewind a second time AND A THIRD. The second slower one causes the same exact overcorrect as the fast rewind.

I am getting ready to go through this thread and compile a list of software issues with Navigator to submit to BHN. If you have not posted yet do it soon.

Thanks to everyone who posted an issue or praise for the new software. I have submitted your posts to BHN engineering in what I hope will be an ongoing exchange as we work through the issues with Navigator.

Hey all- I am talking to BH about our issues to make sure the bugs are being reported and features are being requested. The live buffer recording error reported by BrandonJF on AVSforum as watching a channel live prevents a recording from starting on that same channel is on the bug list at TWC as "under investigation".

The TWC engineers are working on the next release to restore all features previously available in Passport. I am continuing to collect your bug reports and feature requests to pass along to BH.

Only minor bugs are left to work out of the Tivo SDV tuning adapter. BH should have a good supply near the end of the year.

Excellent work Barry!

Here is another sort of annoying issue. If you want to set up a Series Recording on a program that is currently broadcasting at the time you are trying to setup the recording, you cannot do it from the Guide. Selecting it will change to the channel, pressing record will start recording that one instance.

If that same show doesn't air again in the near future (anywhere else in the guide data currently loaded), you can't setup the Series Recording from Find Shows either, since clicking causes the same thing happens there (selecting the name just starts showing the live program, pressing record on the name doesn't do anything).

I would think you could at least setup a Series Recording this way from the Find Shows menu. Maybe there is a way to do it, but its not intuitive.

I am collecting bug reports again next week so if anyone finds a problem please post it here. Once the bugs are squished we should start seeing the new features arriving with the 3.0 software next year delivering the advanced search features.

I wonder if this is already on the list, its not really a bug... but I personally find this behaviour annoying:

When you add a new Series it would be nice if they were added to the bottom of the Series Manager instead of the top. Seems like a poor assumption to think that a newly scheduled series will be my MOST favorite and should override say Lost or The Office.
