In Demand's MSO Owners Say Channel Helped Fill HD Gap -- For a While
By Kent Gibbons -- Multichannel News, 10/7/2008 12:02:00 PM
Mojo HD, the male-targeted, ad-supported programming outlet, is being shut down by In Demand Networks, the distributor confirmed.
“The Mojo HD channel was originally conceived as a way to satisfy consumers’ thirst for pure true high definition programming,” In Demand, owned by three big cable operators, said in a statement. “While Mojo HD accomplished this goal, there is a wealth of HD programming now available and thus we have chosen to discontinue the service.” In Demand said it had no other comment but confirmed the channel would go dark by about Dec. 1, with some variability among systems carrying it.
In Demand – owned by Comcast, Time Warner Cable and Cox – relabeled its former INHD channel Mojo HD in May 2007, after consolidating two INHD channels into one. In addition to the In Demand owners, Mojo has carriage on Cablevision, Bright House Networks, Mediacom and Charter systems, a little more than 10 million subscribers in all.

In Demand also is working with Time Warner Cable (and ThePlatform) on the new Road Runner Video Store download service.

I had always wondered what would happen with HDnet when more HD became available.
However, I had no idea MOJO would be the first to go. Hopefully, some of their shows get picked up elsewhere.
This is going to hurt BH on that $6 HD extra pak so look for them to replace it with something else. It's possible they will get Wealth TV, ChillerHD or maybe add some sports channel to that lineup like the MLB channel or maybe NBA TV HD next year to get people to continue coughing up the extra $6 bucks a month.

Saw this the other day on another site. I think it is really good news. Mojo was garbage. It was OK as InHD 1/2 but has been crap for a very long time. Remember when they got rid of InHD2? BHN replaced it with MHD. They will replace the empty slot that is Mojo with something. Maybe you'll get Smithsonian as part of the HD extra pak. I have BHN but don't pay for the HD extra pak anymore since I have the full DirecTV HD premier package with their HD extra package, which includes Smithsonian.
MOJO will not be missed by too many. There are dozens of better HD channels available to make better use of the bandwidth.

I watch HDNet and HDNet movies. They won't be going away. The actually play some really good commercial free movies. BHN will probably add Smithsonian. The HD Pak is made up of channels that are HD only channels, not HD versions of SD channels, such as Chiller. In fact, Chiller is just now going HD this month I believe, or next.

HDNet and HDNet Movies are the best HD channels offered by BHN or Verizion. They were the only HD pack channels worth paying for when I had BHN. $6 just for those two channels is a better deal than HBO, Showtime, or any of those other "premium" channels.
Seriously, how many times can HBO, Showtime, Cinemax, etc repeat the same damn movies over and over. How many times can they screw up the aspect ratio? HBO and Showtime do not do that, but the other lower tier premiums like Starz does it all the time.
Sure HDNet Movies only shows older movies, but they are in the best HD quality available to them, they are always in the original aspect ratio, and they show zero commercial interruptions.
Mark Cuban maybe an arrogant jerk with his sports teams, but at least he knows how to run a quality set of HDTV channels.

Like others, I am a big fan of HDNet/HDNet Movies, have been since the outset. HDNet offers up enough decent sports (they did a splended job on the UFL's first game), Mecum auto auctions and informational programming to keep me coming back for more.
There is so much garbage out there I wasn't even aware Mojo was still on the air. No RIP from here. Good riddance to bad rubbish.
