If you go to the Directv website and click on tv listing and then on demand and go to about page 12 you will see the Bucket List on channel 1080 and you can remote schedule it to record on your HDDVR. You MUST have an internet connection for this to work since it is VOD. The nice thing about it is that it's totally free and looks phenonmenal! Enjoy videophiles.

Thanks for the tip. I haven't hooked mine up to the internet yet, since I didn't want any more problems than absolutely necessary.
This is the first time I've heard of a good reason to have VOD available.

Just so you know it was a CE thing. It was part of last weekends cutting edge download and they've since removed it from the website but it obviously means there are a lot more to come in the future.

Just an update: Bucket List, The Bank Job and Mission Impossible III are now available in 1080p on channel 1080. They are all free of charge. VOD only of course.

Ok, so I downloaded all 3 1080p movies yesterday, and went to play them.
Ehhh -- no go, locked the box up. I rebooted the box and did the (2-4-6-8) check for new firmware, and there was none. I figured I would give it a shot again, and the same thing, locked box with audio playing but no video.
So then I got to thinking maybe it was an HDMI issue and unplugged / replugged my HDMI cable, and I got a picture -- sorta. It almost looks like one of the color channels isn't being displayed (definitely NOT red since the whole screen has a pinkish tint :) ).
Anyway, is anyone else having these issues, and if so how did you solve them?
PS - just for the heck of it I hooked up component cables and that was a no go as well (no pic).

Hook the box up with component cables -- it is obviously an HDCP issue.
So next question, do you guys have a "1080p" resolution under "HDTV"?
I don't, and sure enough it is outputting 1080i, I really hope that isn't their idea of "1080p" because it is real easy to see the jitter that is happening from the DTV box converting to interlaced, and then the TV doing 3:2 pulldown to get back to 1080p.

You first of all must use an HDMI cable to view 1080p material. Secondly you should get the lastest CE release between the hours of 11pm and 2am on either Friday or Saturday night. After you get the CE software you will see the 1080p resolution check box on the HDTV section of the menu. The most important thing that you need to do after all of this is to turn native on. When 1080p is being output both the 1080i and 720p lights will be on simutaneously on the front of your HR21. Alot of users who reported that their TVs were incapable of supporting 1080p/24 are now reporting good results from the latest software. They have added two more movies this week in 1080p that are still free: The Scorpion King 2 and the original 48 hours. Some of the older Sony 1080p sets and Mitsubishi's were having problems. What type of set do you have?

AH HA -- so I need the latest CE firmware since I don't have the 1080p option. I will download it tonight :)
It is kinda nice that they will give people the chance to watch 1080p material in 1080i if they don't have a 1080p set. Again, I was only able to get it to do that over the component cables, so maybe it is a fluke for now.
As for my set, it a Samsung HLT series, so it doesn't do 24fps unfortunately (that will be remedied real soon though :P )
Again, thanks for the info.

Even if your tv doesn't support 1080p/24, when you play some of these flics in 1080i it looks so damn good it's hard to see where it's lacking over 1080p.

I get the "Display not compatible" message, when I know for a fact that it will take 1080p/24 as an input. However, it converts that to 1080p/60 for display.
It seems that your display has to not only accept 1080p/24 as an input, it has to DISPLAY 1080p/24. That means a display capable of 48hz / 72hz / 120hz or 240hz (don't know of any displays that can do higher than 240hz right now :P ) -- some even multiple of 24.
I really hope DirecTV fixes that in later firmware. If not, Christmas is right around the corner :P

Well the 1080p option went national last night that's the good news... The bad news is channel 1080 is no longer available so no more freebies.
