I feel like this has been going on for years, but again this morning during the men's basketball the picture gets "stuck" and jitters back and forth, until they eventually switch to SD for a bit then switch back to HD. It's almost like their MPEG2 HD encoder gets stuck and they have to reboot it.

Anyone know what the deal is?

Happened during the Men's Water Polo, also.
Very annoying since the HD picture has been excellent.

It could be several things but the most likely candidate is they are loosing their Ku feed and the IRD locks on the last frame - or as you call it jitters if interlaced between the two frames). It stays that way until Master Control realizes it and switches to the SD feed. When the HD feed is restored, they switch back to it.

It is a possibility that it could be encoder getting stuck but if that was the case then switching to the SD feed would be stuck as well as the 480i feed has to go into the encoder at 1080i as well.

Not sure it's a national issue has for at least the Men's Basketball yesterday I was able to watch the game in HD on the Olympic Basketball channel without any issues at all.

Not national issue. Again, downlink at WFLA.
