I got my HD receiver set up today. However, the picture was worse that my RCA HD antenna.
How should I fix this problem? should i cancel dish HD local programming and use my antenna instead?
many thanks.

Dish HD is probably going to look a little worse than the Hd antenna due to the compression but this is standard practice among all of the service providers. They will compress the signal to allow room for more channels. The quality may depend on the channel you are looking at. You may be looking at an HD-lite channel. If you are only interested in receving the local channels and can receive them with no problems then go with the antenna but if you want to receive the other channels then you will have to go with one of the service providers.

OTA HD is about the best you can get for broadcast HD. Although Dish claims their TurboHD service is going to support 1080p... not sure it that means they are sending 1080p or just upconverting at the box, anybody know?
Anyway... I would say yes, cancel your locals and use the antenna. You'll save a few bucks and get better picture to boot.
I'm actually considering canceling cable 100% and going with an antenna. I'll save $60 a month. Atlantis and Dr Who are about all I would miss... and I can buy them on Amazon Unbox via my TiVo, or just wait for the DVD set's to come out.

If you use an antenna you can receive up to 25 local digital channels, counting the sub-channels. Granted, many of them aren't going to be watched much, but it's an advantage over the cable or satellite local selections they provide.
