I am a Roadrunner reseller.
I am a subscriber to Virtual Office Ultimate.
Virtual Office gives me a static IP, unblocked ports, and has traditionally given me speeds of 15/2. This was all good.
When RR announced (way back in April?) the speed increases to residential (dynamic IPs) accounts, I was curious whether we would get a speed boost on VO RR accounts. I emailed my contact several times and left her VM messages. She never replied. I didn't know if she was avoiding the answer or no longer worked for the company.
Well, I got my answer this week, and it wasn't through the reseller program.
I had slow speeds (surfing, ping tests coming back bad, etc) on Friday so I booked ANOTHER service call for Wednesday. During my phone call I told them at best I was getting 15 down. They advised me that my account was provisioned for 20 down and that is what I should be getting. Nope... never have.
So when the guys came out on Wednesday (not one but two techs), I got my answer. The fact is, VO Ultimate entitles you to 20/2 speeds, BUT, the Zytel (sp?) modems don't get you above 15 due to a limitation of the firmware. He switched out my modem to another brand (too lazy to climb up there and look right now what brand). He set the static IP in their equipment and was out the door in like five minutes.
Now my speed tests are consistently coming back at near 20/2 like they should. But he did tell me they are very limited on the newer modems and was almost hesitant to issue me one. But he was cool. He also said that they are waiting on a firmware so the other modems that they use for business can handle the faster speeds.
Remember folks, the squeeky wheel gets the oil. They aren't just going to roll up in your driveway with a newer modem to give you the faster speed. You need to ask for it.
