I haven't seen this posted here, but just in case some folks who are eligible haven't received a notice, I thought I would put this up on the message board:

Time Warner Cable is proposing a settlement to a class action lawsuit alleging that Time Warner Cable sold its subscribers' personal information to other companies for marketing purposes. Persons eligible for the settlement include anyone who subscribed to Time Warner Cable between January 1, 1994 and December 31, 1998. Time Warner served Tampa back then. If you are eligible, you can elect to receive any of the following:

- one month of any Time Warner service that you don't already have.
- two free movies on demand
- $5.00

To be eligible for the month of free service or the two movies, you must be in an area serviced by Time Warner and either be a customer or become a customer. Otherwise, the only option available is the $5.00. Brighthouse Networks is owned by Time Warner, but I don't know if that makes Brighthouse customers eligible for the free services. You can also transfer your eligibility to someone who does live in an area served by Time Warner.

The group handling the settlement sent out a post card notice a while back to people in their database, but I nearly threw mine out thinking it was junk mail. Also, if you are eligible but moved since 1998 they might not have your current address. If you think you might be eligible and want to get more information, the web site for the settlement is:

Hey, $5.00 may not be much, but it's something.
