I noticed yesterday that the called id has had a couple changes. First change is that it now uses capital and lowercase letters. Second change is that instead of getting an actual name from a cell phone user now I just get 'Cell Phone FL'

I love the fact that you can listen to messages on the web site.

I think its a 'neat' feature but unless I'm traveling its more of a hassle to login to the 'Online Phone Tools' to retrieve msg's.

Curious, were these calls previously identified otherwise?

FYI, BHN (everywhere), much like most "end user" call providers (other MSOs, etc), don't actually provide the CID info themselves. This is provided by upstreams from them. BHN get the info, then pass it along to the end-client (be it your phone, and/or your settop if you're a digital subscriber w/ Compass or MDN).

(and ps: hah, I knew they were talking about making it available via a website, didn't know it'd happened yet.. man am I outta the loop! This is cool because it's an example of open-source concepts used in basic engineering design, the voice mail system is basically an ldap-ificated e-mail system.. easy and simple way to sort, organize and authenticate users.. and make that data available in other ways.. very very cool, glad to see they did this)

Yes up until about a week ago. Our cell phones are through T-Mobile so I don't know if its specific to T-Mobile or not. But on another note the same time that changed the name displayed also changed from 'LAST, FIRST' to 'Last, First'. They now use a combination of upper and lowercase letters.

As of two nights ago it has changed back again from saying 'Cell Phone, FL' to actually the persons name.

My Cingukar\ATT cell phone shows up as "Wireless Caller" but my company Sprint cell shows up with my name FIRST LAST all caps

Its like flipping a coin. Sometimes it will say the persons name and other times it will say Cell Phone, FL. Also now as of this morning some numbers are coming through and being displayed on the TV as 'Private' but show up properly on the phone's caller id.
