Has anyone checked to see if the HDMI and component video outputs are active at the same time on the 8300HD DVR? I picked up a new HDTV unit for the guest room and would like to have it "clone" the main system to avoid renting a second box for very occasional use.
Thanks,
Don

They are not both active at the same time at my house. Composite and S-Video are both active at the same time as HDMI though. As soon as the HDMI cable is pulled from the back of the box, component cables do go live. Then whatever ritual animal sacrifice and incantation used to enable the HDMI outlet previously will be required again.
Using a 1X2 Powered HDMI splitter might be OK. Ask your cable system provider if only one TV was watched at a time would they consider the use acceptable. Like would they allow an A/B switch. Some cable companies don't support HDMI at all, so this may be a moot question. Asking how to avoid fees for a second cable TV conveter box is ill-advised. You might want to rephrase the question.

BHN wouldn't care if you used an HDMI splitter. But HDCP (the copy protection on the HDMI port might). I'm not that up to speed on these devices, but I'd imagine the handshake required from TV to settop over the HDMI cable would be problematic. Do HDCP-compliant 1x2 splitters exist? Don't know.

Hadn't thought about HDCP issues. A component video amp/splitter would do the trick.
Thanks,
