I have no landline connected to my HR20-100 but I do have the ethernet plug plugged in. I was told that I could not order PPV without a landline. Well, I ordered and it worked! Is it communicating via ethernet?
I also saw some posts somewhere that you could connect to your PC and view pictures and such. Is it possible? The post I read said press MENU and go to Photos...I have no Photos option..
TIA

Someone will obviously correct me if I am wrong but I don't think the ethernet is enabled on the HR20 at this time.
If you don't have a landline they are suppose to set the card to $0. Which they probably didn't do in your case. They probably have it set anywhere between $50 and $300. So you will be able to order PPV until the card reaches that amount. It won't reset until it calls home and uploads the information.

I don't have an HR20 myself, but my understanding is that the Ethernet port works for pictures and such, but not for PPV. Also, you can order PPV, but you won't be charged for it till the next time you plug in the receiver.

Ben - your right.. I just confirmed that the ethernet is enabled but not for PPV at this time.

Ah ha. I think I get it. If I order PPV, it is instant regardless of landline. Then, at some point, the box phones home to update charges. If it cannot update charges, then I assume the box will 'lock up' or something until I plug in a landline?
As for the ethernet. It is enabled. I am able to view pictures/videos/music off of my PC running WMP11. The box does connect to the internet, but does nothing with the connection.
I can only assume in the near future they will enable PPV and maybe some VOD via the ethernet plug. Why not...it is 2007 after all!
Thanks for the answers..
