Hello,

I was wondering if anyone knew for sure whether "F" connectors especially made for Quad Shield RG6 cable should be used. Home Depot does not sell them and it looks like about 50% of the websites I found make a distinction between "F" connectors and "F" connectors for Quadshield. It would be much easier just to pick some up locally.

The topic was briefly discussed in a previous thread and a link was even provided to where BHN supposedly gets their "F" connectors for Quad Shield RG6. However, I have been unable to get that particular link to work.

Also, I'm assuming that I could crimp the connector pretty much the same way but would I be wise to get a "Quad Shield RG6" stripping tool instead of using the regular RG6 strip tool?

Thus, anybody know if it really makes a difference if you use Quad Shield "F" connectors. Anybody know where to find them locally?

Thank you!
Chris

It is very hard to force a regular connector onto quad cable. To do it you usually have to modify the stripping procedure and even then the connector won't go on far, and is subject to early withdrawal or dropoff.
If your stripping tool has adjustable cutting blade depth, you can use tune it for your cable type.

I have a bag of 100 quad RG-6 connectors, which are larger in diameter to allow for the extra shielding. I can share some with you at cost. I got them at Dow electronics, which is supposed to be wholesale only, though I see some regular shoppers in there ocasionally.

Call me if you want some,...........813-495-5065.
Maybe I could bring some to the Ch-44 thing?

Thanks Floyd for the offer. I will keep it in mind but I don't need any until late January when the home is finished.

I wired up a bajillion RG6-QS connections when wiring my house. It's not local but you can find all the goddies at www.PartsExpress.com

Way too much good stuff if you are pre-wiring your house...

If you get the stripper and the crimper (yup, it's different too...though I don't know how critical the difference is) then I suggest you get some of the crimp-on gold-plated RCA connectors (part # 091-1060) to make up custom length cables for your HT system using RG6-QS cable. Sure you can buy cables but I don't want to think what I would have spent on the 10 or 12 10-15-ft runs I needed.
