I was told by a friend that is a salesman for BHN here in Tampa.

Evidently they recently had a company meeting for the all the sales people and among other things it was stated that BHN was currently in talks with ESPN and our local NBC affiliate.

Obviously he couldn't say much more but he did say that it looks like they are going to reach an agreement soon, and the techs have been told to prepare to carry the signal, by designating a channel to be used for these stations.

I would assume that NBC will be 608. ESPN probably depends on wether it will be included with the HD tier or with basic digital cable.

I hope this is true.

Thanks for the tip. On a similar note, I'd love to see channel 644 show up soon. I'm tired of having to watch Enterprise via alternate methods due to the signal from BH looking like total garbage.

While this is good news, I'm gonna hang on to my skeptics hat and say, "I'll believe it when I see it." It's been said by BHN people for too long that "they're on the verge of a deal" without any signs of progress. I can only hope though.

And I agree, that 644 would be another excellent inclusion. I keep wanting to see Enterprise in HD.

I only got to see a few Episodes of Enterprise via OTA before I left town for the last 4 weeks. I took my projector with me to Dallas,TX and bought a standalone OTA box there. Its really awesome to see BLACK space.

BUT, I chose to watch Superman and Angel in HD _ and for the 1st time since STTNG, I've actually missed Star Trek episodes.
Will finally get back to one tomorrow cause no WB HD programming will be on, but its a shame I've missed the "expanse" episodes - at least the last 4-5.

Hey Jaymer,

Gives you a reason to look forward to the reruns. You missed quite a rew good one's. Last week was very interesting. I had them TIVO'd so I could watch Smallville, but have since erased them.

I recently sent BHN an email about this and of course have not heard back from them yet. I also inquired about the HDDVR.

We'll see. I just can't see how BH Central Florida has all the Channels but we in the TampaBay area are still getting screwed by not having all of them yet.

BHN Central Florida has ESPNHD?

As for NBC, our NBC affiliate is owned my Media General (http://www.mediageneral.com/), and NBC in orlando is owned by Hearst-Argyle (http://www.hearstargyle.com/stations/).

Since they are owned by different companies they require seperate contracts to carry the station.

"How can Central Florida have all the channels and Tampa only have some?"

Easy. The NBC station in Tampa is owned by a different company than the NBC station in Orlando. Do your own research and look up the Tampa NBC owner, then look at what other local broadcast stations they own. See how many deals they've done anywhere...

Ok so we might not be getting NBC anytime soon. What is the hold up with ESPN-HD??? I know they don't have a ton of stuff in HD but they are going to have quite a few NCCA Men basketball games in HD this year.

Anyone heard of any movement on this from BHN?

I hope that they get ESPNHD soon, the new schedule is up on their site
http://sports.espn.go.com/sports/tvlistings/espnhd/index

There is quite a bit of HD starting next year, sounds like ESPNHD is going to start having quite a bit more in HD finally. Hopefully we can get to watch it soon. I say dump INHD and add ESPNHD!

Would HDNet and HDNet Movies make anyone feel better? They launch in February?

Yes it would make me feel alot better, thanks.
Right now I have both cable and D*.
If BHN add HDnet's and ESPNHD, then I won't need it.
except during football season. :(

Thanks for the update keep em comming.

So is HDNet and HDNet movies free or part of the HD Pak? If it's part of the pak then will that price increase?

gmclaughlin

Part of the HD Pak -- no price change. That's why we finally agreed to do an HD tier -- otherwise we wouldn't be able to do channels like these...

Cool..I think I will keep it then since there will be some more programming. There are quite a few NHL games on HDNET will be nice.

I know you are tired of hearing this but is there any chance of getting ESPNHD added to the HDPAK? That would be a really great addition as
there programming is going to increase quite a bit in a few weeks.

A question no one has asked...

What is happening with Starz-HD? Comcast is offering it, why not BHN?

In my opinion, you can keep the tier that has about 10% HD programming and give me Lord of the Rings EE in glorious HD.

I don't subscribe to Starz but I would in a minute if it were HD.

Speaking of 10% HD, dont ask for startz so fast. LOTR was shown in Leterbox 4x3 on Starz-HD.

If you still think you want this channel right now, see this thread.

I'm sure they are just working out the bugs since HD is new to them. I would still want it.

I sent an email to both Bright House and Channel 8 about not carrying the local NBC afiliate and they replied:

BHN (via phone): They are in negotiations with NBC to broadcast channel 8 and expect to have it done late first quarter '04 or shortly after. ESPN will be broadcast first quarter '04.

Channel 8 (via email): "Bright House has requested permission to carry our digital signal on their cable system however they have not agreed to carry the entire data stream. This means they could elect to deliver the main program channel and delete all other ancillary and future data services, leaving you the subscriber without the full benefit digital television has to offer. We gladly welcome WFLA-DT carriage on Bright House as long as they agree to carry the entire data stream. "

I'm not holding my breath on Channel 8 based on their reply.

I think that always was the hold up.
Sort of like how BHN had to have the 2 useless PBS digital channels in order to get the HDTV one.
And I'm sure the local CBS and ABC affiliates would be scratching their heads when they see 3 or 4 NBC channels in the Hi Def section.

Who cares, I get NBC OTA, I want ESPN and Starz!

I would email them and tell them that you don't want their other channels. The other channels are just going to cause compression artifacts, on their HD channel, just like they do with PBS.

I would tell them this but I email them all the time and complain when their engineering department messes up the HDTV broadcasts. It is hard to tell them I won't watch, because then I wouldn't be able to email them to keep them straight.

I do have to admit that in hine sight, I was stupid to post this thread. We have been getting the same run around for 6 months(probably longer but that is when I bought my tv) and nothing has changed.

Greg,
Is there any validity to these timelines :?:

Speculation at best. The way these things work is that the two sides negotiate, argue, whine, moan and complain at each other for some period of time, and then one day, it happens, generally with little warning.

A deal with either of these could happen tomorrow, or six months from now. I am confident it will happen, it's just a matter of time.
